Best of luck with the adventure! It really can take a special sort of person to enjoy a low slung 2 seater car as a DD. I've always preferred go karts to SUVs, and like the idea of hearing the surface I'm on (When the roads turns icy, I can -HEAR- it, rather than just waiting for the steering to go numb). Raw, low, unrefined - all checkboxes I need marked for my daily driver. You'll find out in time if it's something you can deal with, or if you end up not being able to deal with it. Proud of you for trying, keep us updated - hope it works out!

I guess the definition of Daily Driver varies too much to make an overarching statement about it.

My daily driver needs is basically a commuter car that gets decent gas mileage and I don't hate driving everyday.

Since I don't need bells and whistles that are subject to breaking (heck I'd prefer rollup windows if I could get them), actually enjoy road noise (I ride motorcycles and fly small airplanes, now there's real "road" noise) and have found that the rear seats are fine for my occasional needs for passenger room, I'm guessing our needs are different.

Now that said, I fully admit that a CTS-V would be a much superior daily "comfort" driver, with the exception of gas mileage.
To each their own I suppose. I like bells and whistles in my daily driver. I didn't realize how awesome it is just to have steering wheel radio control were until I didn't have them. Not a huge deal, but it's nice in a daily.

I have cars right now with wheel audio controls and those without. Honestly, I don't notice the difference. Half the time I use the radio controls anyway, just a natural action.

As you say, each to their own. I don't think there is a wrong answer, but I also don't think that makes the 86 a crappy DD.

That's funny. This car has more features than my old Yaris ever did. Plus I've been driving 100 miles a day the past month and have been getting about 39 mpg. Can't beat that.

I never really noticed it till I drove a car that had them as my only car, then got another car.

I dunno. It's a relatively spartan economy car. Nothing about it is "good daily driver" to me.

Dude that's so me lol I thought it was kinda weird to like having road noise and just that raw driving experience for daily driving. I've had a few friends ask about things like that and they act like it's a bad thing. I'm 19 so I don't need much space. Just a sexy car to get me to work and school and it's done that and then some. Streets aren't the best in Houston but I genuinely enjoy feeling the road under me. "Go kart" was the first thing that came to mind when I drove it for the first time too lol It's great!

Admittedly, if I had your stable of cars, I would not be driving the FRS daily either. I'd be driving the one in your avatar.

I drive the 4Runner more, which is where I miss creature comforts/bells and whistles the most. The GS is awesome, but in comparison it's almost stressful to drive. Manual, visibility sucks, low-profile tires means constantly scanning for road debris and potholes (especially on our shit roads), low car means making sure no one misses you, it's louder, approach angle sucks, you worry about where you park etc. 4runner, I can enjoy a cup of coffee and drive to work. It's really nice to sit up high, have a plush ride (relatively), auto trans and not give a damn about door dings. I've had two different valet companies buy me a new splitter on this car.

Cliff notes: When you drive the vette, you're DRIVING. The 4Runner is basically an appliance.

I'm debating upgrading to a 2009ish 4runner or upgrading calipers ($50 for bigger ones) and stereo so I have bluetooth. The extra 50hp will be welcomed too.

A friend in the same cube-block had a MK1 I got to test drive.
Shweeet car, but no cargo to speak of. Still had the Alfa at the time.

Civic had space and hyughe windows all around.
MK2 looked too much like a suppository. Never got on with that.

sports cars tend to be 'bad' daily drivers mainly cuz of the lack of creature comforts and its rough and tumble ride quality. So its not exactly surprising that the 86 is considered not very DD friendly.

If you do want the best of all worlds you end up getting something that costs considerably more, or something that leans towards the "comfort" side of things.

Besides, any car can be a DD, it depends on the person how much tolerance they have for the sacrifices that may be required.
