I'm not going to suggest a transmission choice, but it sounds like you're already committed to getting the manual. You like it, plus you still have to wait to test drive an auto. Just keep in mind about stop 'n go traffic if you still want the manual.
Neither choice is wrong, however. |

As nothing but an automatic driver before I got my BRZ, I'll go ahead and throw in my two cents. Since I had never driven a manual full time before buying my car, I was very worried I'd get tired of driving manual or not feel like doing it when there wasn't a fun road/driving opportunity. Given that sentiment, I must say driving this car in manual has NEVER been tiring. It's such an incredibly soft feeling clutch and easy to drive car. Very easy to learn (or re-learn in my case) manual on too.
One thing I will say that's a little different from most is driving the manual is not always more fun, BUT it is definitely always more satisfying. Even in just normal driving situations, such as driving for economy, there's something about getting nice smooth starts and shifting into gears perfectly that's very viscerally satisfying. Kind of like like that weird thing that makes us not want to stop clicking a pen cap. Driving a manual BRZ just feels right. Hope this helps your decision. |

I think the easiest way to decide is to see if the manual drives well or not. The manual variant isn't necessarily better than the automatic for every car.
For example, when I shopped for the Golf GTI, the manual version to me clearly sucked ass so I opted for the DSG version which was much more enjoyable to drive. But for the BRZ with its short stroke clutch pedal and short throw shifter, it was a no brainer for me. |

Well, I think you should take the experience of driving auto once, and then decide the best one amongst manual or auto. |

I've owned nothing but MT's on all of my past rides when they were an option, except for my '08 Accord Coupe, and my 2016 BRZ. I'm too old to be shoving in a clutch when there is an alternative to keeping revs in a useable range, paddles in this case. I purposely chose AT, and LOVE it. I thought I'd never use the paddles, but then came the Borla axle back and the need to hear it bark, and the rest is history.
No matter, you will be happy - to each his own. |
