New 276hp Civic type R vs FRS/BRZ

http://wot.motortrend.com/euro-spec-...#axzz2edld7ftY

September 10, 2013

The first official details about the Euro-spec 2015 Honda Civic Type R have been announced, revealing that the upcoming sport compact will be powered by a turbocharged, direct-injected 2.0-liter I-4 making at least 276 hp. Honda’s goal is to take the record for fastest front-drive car around the Nürburgring, a record currently held by the Renault Megane RS Trophy.

With a turbocharged engine now confirmed for the next Civic Type R, the car will be a departure from the nameplate’s naturally aspirated roots. But with global competitors like the Ford Focus ST, Volkswagen GTI and Golf R, and upcoming Subaru WRX all using forced induction, Honda must adapt if it hopes to keep up in the sport compact arms race. The Honda Civic Type R will also need all the power it can get to capture the front-drive Nürburgring record. We recently snapped a Civic Type R prototype at the ‘Ring testing alongside its competition. Manabu Nishimae, president for Honda Europe, said in a press conference at the 2013 Frankfurt Motor Show, “We have recently spent a week at the Nürburgring, carrying out extensive testing and we are on target, and have already set a time approaching the lap record.”
Though the Honda Civic Type R is already testing on the Nürburgring, the automaker says the car still has two years of development ahead before going on sale in Europe and other markets in 2015. At the press conference, Honda premiered a short promo video featuring the Civic Type R testing at the ‘Ring. The naturally aspirated four-cylinder sound is gone, but at least we get to see the Civic Type R successor do its thing on a road course.

This type R is one of the best looking civic body style I've ever seen for a while. Remind me those 90s lightweight hatchback. This fw car will smoke the current n/a twin all over. Well, it meant Toyota/Subaru better motivate and hurry to deliver the new higher HP version soon Got to love this type of competition for the better

Maybe it's the aggressive pattern that's supposed to mask the look of the car, but when I look at the shape it makes me think of the same thing, but in a bad way. There's no way I would buy a car that looks like that.

Honestly, I can tell by just looking at the picture that this new Type R looks like a Honda Fit. Maybe that's what it should have been called.

I just bought a 95 240sx...I'd rather drop 5k into that thing than own a Civic Type R lol

Hey! You're forgetting that our twins cost less than half of that Civic. You can buy two gt86's for the price of that Civic.

I think Toyobaru already has lots going for it. The aftermarket support is incredible for our twins that I believe Toyota/Subaru shouldn't care to release a turbo car. I doubt they will.

Our cars are already out selling showroom floors, why should Toyobaru stop what they are currently doing? Toyota/Subaru are first and foremost a business entity. They make money. I don't see them coming out with a turbocharged version. You also should remember that they built this car to be affordable. A turbo version would be much more expensive and insurance costs will be higher. At that point, it will not be affordable enough to reach the masses. Dammit, even 16 year-olds have an 86

You're also forgetting where the roots of our gt86 came from: Great tuning platform, grossly underpowered, incredible room for potential, rwd, and very affordable. It just happens that they threw in premium handling that rivals Porsche

I don't think the manufacteurers directly will come out with turbocharged versions, but I believe they've now left it up to aftermarket tuners like TRD, Tom's, STi, Amuse, TTE, etc., to come out with their own version of a $60,000 frs/gt85/brz. Would be cool to see. Like extremely limited editions.

As for that neat looking 2015 Honda, it's probably very exclusive and very nice. I love Honda motors, I just think a lot of them are in the wrong spot. Honda needs to bring something like an awd Civic to the table. They obviously have the technology for it. An Awd Civic would be an incredible car.

That 2015 turbo Civic is nothing but a limited run version. $60,000 for a Civic, I think I will pass!

But the truth be told: In the end... rwd > fwd ...max vs max... era vs era...

Obviously it doesn't have the look and the drive compare to the twin, but this type R would be the best ever for a civic.
