Dang it. I'm new to autocross, I've only done 5 events. All I have is a drop in filter. I've been running in the novice group, but the tech guy said to please move to my class in the next event I attend.

Anyways, recently I just did the sound generator delete and put in a Perrin Inlet Tube. Apparently, according to the first post in this thread, it's not allowed. And this tube that adds maybe 1hp bumps me to STX? Am I correct or incorrect? =/ I'm still a noob, I don't want to go to STX yet, and especially when I'm in a pretty much stock vehicle. Looks like I'm going to have to put back on that sound generator and stock inlet tube this weekend.

For those in CS class, has something like this ever happened to you before? Maybe when you were new to autocross?

Have any of you in CS did the sound generator delete, but left the stock intake tube, and plugged the hole that would lead to the sound generator? e.g. - http://www.dynosty.com/2012/06/dynos...be-delete-kit/ If that's allowed in CS, I may do that.

Yes, it's illegal. Rules are rules, doesn't matter if its 1hp.

Anything that you do outside of what is allowed, no matter how small, is illegal. One bar, shocks, 200tw tires, catback.

Just let the people in your class know and make sure everyone is okay with it. They probably will be. And be sensitive to the fact that your car isn't legal for CS.

One national competitor has done this and claimed it as a comfort/convenience mod. IMO it's a gray zone as you are technically modifying the intake, but that's far more forgivable than actually replacing your intake with a higher performance one.

You should read the rules - they spell out everything that's allowed, and anything else not mentioned isn't allowed.

If you do national events, you might want to keep your old parts just to stuff into the glove compartment (at least the parts will be technically in the vehicle if anyone complains about your removing parts from the car).

The intake tube is a simple swap with minimal effort. I would just swap it back to stock for autocross events.

Only the people you beat will care. If it's your 6th race, there may not be many of them.

Wow. Thats generous.

Once you complete a full season, is when our local chapter says: You're outta here smallz.

Kinda sucks if they're the only one to show up that day though doesn't it?

I dont think I have ever seen an event where I run with less than 15 to 40 novices. I have seen guys run as novices for a year or more tho trying to improve enough to move on to their appropriate class.

For SCCA here we get 3-5 at one venue and 10-15 at the other. For the day.

We had 25 novices at our event this past weekend. We started running on Saturdays because we changed venues and now we run in a church parking lot that use to be an outdoor entertainment venue so lot is fairly large.
Our turnout may drop off a bit since more people work on Saturdays than Sundays but we still had 134 entries and we got five runs for the day.

My first club gave us 3 events to be in novice class and that was it. At the time it felt like I was being thrown into the deep end because I still had no idea what I was doing.

Now I think it was a blessing. Running against other novices that will transition to different car classes isn't going to help you develop. Run where you belong and get better quickly if you want to compete.
