I just feel like they are going to be shooting each other in the foot if the two cars are too similar like the 90s Mitsu eclipse and Eagle Talon...

Subaru will probably offer AWD while Toyota keeps RWD and different engine options. Good enough to differentiate the product.

If the FT86 can get something close to what the S2000's transmission was/is, there will be high praise for it. |

Makes sense. Just strange that they will ditch awd technology since they have time and money invested into it and it's one of their major selling points of the brand. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Without that requirement, I bet Subaru will be crowing about the "beauty of rear wheel drive" in their commercials instead |

Regarding Subaru marketing RWD platforms. I can see them pushing RWD with an efficiency perspective. "All power of the BOXER engine coupled with the efficiency and maneuverability of rear wheel drive." They might even go with describing how RWD lets them put their low center of gravity BOXER engine further back to improve handling.
Then they can still differentiate their AWD systems with safety and control. EDIT: I am praying to Treesus that a RWD GT XL Infinity+1 version makes it to the USA. Right now that is the only vehicle I possibly see myself purchasing in the near future. I am not sure I would care if it's Yota or Scooby. It would be nice to see it sold as a Toybaru, in fact if I did buy one I would make sure to badge it as such. |

I think there will be a lot more market competition for subaru once it enters RWD unless they plan to only offer low power rwd setups since that will help keep the price down.

Well, they have the brand loyal people. But I believe that there are no other vehicles that could really compete with this car and have a brand name established. I only see the Genesis competing with this vehicle, and they are fairly new to the market with no proven name. Well as far as I know.
