Drill a hole in the taillights?

Anyone do this yet?
Worked well?

I know its universally known to work well but I've seen a few times it hasn't done anything.

YES, to fix the condensation problem.

Thanks.

No, to let the magical butterflies free.

Why else would you drill a hole in your taillights? Extra 25HP?

To lower the drag? But can't the dealer just replace the taillights if you have a condensation problem, on a side note my old ae86 use to get water in the tail light and I drilled a tiny hole in the bottom and problem was fixed, but I mean with a 2013 frs/brz I would expect the warranty to cover the issue.

Oh wow, then yea you could but I just find odd to do that to a brand new car, does three fixes fall under lemon law?

I'm not even going to go through that bullshit, i already put 20,000 miles on this car, i have already bonded with it.

The only problem besides the door rattling is the taillights.

The best part is that this has cost me money.

The gaskets and adhesive cost money (I'm not blaming the person who made the DIY of the gaskets, i do thank them for trying, it might also be my fault.), also the third time i went to the dealership they changed my Oil when i had only 1,000 miles of brand spanking new Motul and Oil Filter. When i clearly asked them to not touch anything and not to change my oil.

Also lets not forget that it takes an hour of waiting every time to change taillights.

I've never gotten mad at a car part before.

For now, its only the driver side, but I've seen in the morning the passenger side get a small hint of water.

Wouldn't drilling into the taillights cause a condensation problem?

Thats what i thought but a nearby body shop does it for cars they get with water in the taillights, and i have a few friends who swear by it.

I don't know, i'm just afraid i'll fuck it up, taillights aren't cheap....

I would say don't drill only because it will void the warranty on that light and who knows they may just come out with the right fix one day and if you drill holes they won't replace it.

It isn't a permanent solution, but a quick fix is to go to your local drug store and ask for some silica packets (they get a bunch of them with shipments of meds). Then just glue or tape one to a string (or use a needle to thread it through and back up on itself)...remove one of the bulbs, slide the silica packet in the hole and leave it in there overnight. I had to do that with the headlight on my GTO a couple of times, and it works like a champ! Like I said, not a root-cause fix, but it gets rid of the condensation that's in there.
