The stock power steering is already electric... the motor is just on the column instead of in the rack.

The OEM rack is very compact. The assist motor is mounted to the column right behind the gauge cluster inside the cockpit. They specifically went with this layout to allow them to put the motor as low and far back as possible. Other Subarus do not use this layout.
