hmmm.....Yuhboy, is removing the third brake light legal in Arizona?

Personally, I like to give the folks behind me all the notice I can, when I'm stopping -

I drove it to work this morning, but what I really should do with it today is give the poor thing a bath. She is filthy.

I'm installing the valenti 4th brake light soon which will now act as my 3rd brake light but from what I've read it actually is legal. The 3rd light's purpose is apparently to make up for is one of the main brake lights fail, but as long as you have two working brake lights you're good

In the US, the 3rd brake light is federal, not state, mandated and it has to be above the line of the left/right brake lights. The lower brake light (which is really meant to be a rear fog light in countries that require it) does not technically meet the law.

You might want to check that. It's my understanding that a third brake is now required by federal law.

Some say that the third brake light must be as high or higher than the other two tail lights.

The Intec Brake Light is a good legal option. I think you can get a deal on it thru the manufacturer links on the front page

Edit: here's the link I found. Price is the same but free shipping. https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showpost.php?p=2591830&

The official name of it in federal regulations is "Center High Mounted Stop Lamps" or CHMSL, so that pretty much sounds like it has to be high.

This is covered by "Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 108" which says

Quote:
A high-mounted stop lamp mounted below the rear window must have no lens portion lower than 153 mm. [6 in.] below the lower edge of the rear glazing on convertibles, or 77 mm. [3 in.] on other passenger cars.

I got a high mount light for a 2012(?) Mustang that fit pretty good (not great) but was much cheaper than Intec if you were interested in another option

He's probably not wrong. Daily and autoX doesn't require anything special for brakes. Won't do you any good buying expensive stuff
