Just buy the damn thing, its only a car. Most of the guys on this forum wrecked their first car because they were morons (as most car guys were at the tender teenage years). Prove em wrong, be a great driver.
I always hear the "Man i could of bought..." or the "When i was younger i had a chance to buy..." just fucking do it. What else are you going to get? A Honda accord? Last edited by dem00n; 02-10-2013 at 01:49 PM. |

Wow there are a lot of replies ! Now that I think about it, I probably wouldn't need the back seats unless its an emergency like you guys said. Another thing I need to know is if golf clubs will fit in the trunk. We're deciding between this and a Focus ST or Focus Titanium. (Btw the car is for my older sister, and when she's done with it, it will be my car. So by then, it will probably be worth less.)

Nice! When you had a small class, maybe you guys had built a family. There were 971 seniors in our HS during graduation (I remember that number because we counted the yearbook) and I've only seen a couple of dozen fellow students since last year.

This is an EXCELLENT first car. Think about it from a parent's prospective: no real back seat so a max of 1 passenger comfortably, slow as frack, great stability, easy to drive. It is a drivers car without the speed so they can learn from an incredibly good car that is hard to get in trouble in... That being said if they drive it like an asshole they will crash like an asshole.

Even if a parent did buy their kid a base Honda Civic, they will still find a way to crash it if they go speeding. Same with a Minivan or anything else with wheels! |

This is the only car in its class to be a top IIHS safety pick, if that helps your decision at all.

If you decide to go the cheaper route, look into 97-01 preludes. I had one during high school and absolutely loved it (pic). You should be able to find them reasonably cheap now. Ultimately it's your decision though.

While I want to say yes, I also have to say no.
The thing about the FR-S is that I think you have to have owned a car that isn't RWD, and isn't as new to appreciate it. Is it a sweet ride? Of course; however, it would be a shame if it was something you messed up due to pure ignorance. I learned a lot driving my first car, and I had it for a good 5 years, got into an accident and lost him prematurely; however in that accident, I did learn a valuable lesson, something I'll never repeat in the FR-S. |

No, IMHO, it is not a good first car. My first car was a 1981 VW Rabbit that my dad bought for me for $500. I rolled it into a ditch 4 months later, landed upside down. My next car was a 1979 VW Rabbit I had to buy myself, for $375. My 3rd car was a V8 Mustang. I am so glad my first cars were cheap, slow, and POS vehicles. That's what my kids will get in a few years when they start driving.
