From an engineering standpoint you never want to intentionally introduce layers of complexity. The detachable face sounds good on paper, but theres a reason the main players have never really attempted it. The closest I can think of was that bizar system Alpine came up with where you basically docked the GPS INSIDE the unit behind a motorized screen.

I did like that they bothered to post the SNR ratio. I wish other Android vendors would do the same thing. But having an SNR metric without a workable unit is pointless.

I just wish one of the big names.... Pioneer, JVC, Kenwood, Alpine, Eclipse, Sony, Clarion.... would release a 7" Android version similar to a tablet install... but as a full 2 din unit with all the bells and whistles you get out of a tablet.

Clarion is going the pioneer route http://www.clarion.com/us/en/newstop..._02/index.html

Harman has a viper with their android HU w/ 150 apps. http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/08/h...s-hud-concept/

The HDMI is good... I like the idea of Netflix in the car. And even sling box for live TV service.

Doesn't look "eyes on the road" friendly.
I will like to see a demo from harman since the CEO is talking about almost everything control by voice: opening apps, a/c controls, sort of FORD sync

@2forme

Did you ever have any issues with difficulty of the player playing MP3's??
Mine was playing the tracks fine for 10secs or so..then it would stutter.. then play fine. This would happen repeatedly.

Also, the weather was pretty hot today(around 100F) and I'm using a 16GB SDHC card in the player.

Anyone else with this unit having similar problems? I think it might be the unit running too hot?

No, have you done an integrity check on the MP3 file? Sometimes they degrade and can become corrupt.

@2forme being the resident android head unit expert. What's your current recommendation? I'm halfway tempted to get a Pioneer AppRadio2 and just use my iPhone 5 with it.

Well, I've been told by a couple sources that the AppRadio isn't worth the money.

Really, it depends on what you want out of the unit. I returned my ca-fi and now run a knock off. Some can be had with capacitive screens and I'd love to have a discussion with the Torque developer to see if I can perhaps make a donation for the customized version of the app they made for Ca-Fi.

Everything else on the head unit has run really well. The knockoff actually has less backlight bleed than the Ca-Fi.

Save yourself the money and get a knock off. At least you'll have the option to customize your environment to the way you want. I've also started development on a car-centric launcher

If you want a more in depth discussion, I could always call ya sometime

I would get the beatsonic kit for the spacers, and the knockoff on ebay.

@2forme

If you get the torque guys to go for it, can you have two devises connected to BT at the same time? EI a phone and a BT odb2 adapter? Just something to think about.
