It takes some muscle but pop the bottom clips out first, then you want to pull down to get the top out. It's In there tight. Pop out the USB port and unplug it, and between you pushing from behind pull from that spot as well.

edit sorry, just realized you wrote you don't have the USB port lol

I can't even get enough grip to pull the lower console out.

I have a Canadian BRZ model, so the USB portion of that console is located in the glovebox instead.

Anyone in Toronto available to help me with this? I don't mind driving around the GTA too. I think I might just have to go to a subaru dealer to get this installed.
Try getting it out from the left corner of that trim where the push start button is located.

I pried on it and took it out only half way as I didn't want to keep bending and risk snapping the plastic.

The plastic is flexible enough for you to just unclip and unhook the push start button unit and all you have to do is push in the new STI one.

It was a bitch to do without that USB hole for the Canadian model for sure...

I'm having this same problem as well. It's ridiculously hard to remove that piece. I was wondering if anyone from Toronto is willing to lend me a hand? Edit: Nevermind. I was able to push from the back with a stick and pop it out. Thanks for your guys help.

I'm tempted to order this too... looks so good.

but when I do, I'll probably wait to put it in since I'm replacing the knee panels and painting that silver trim in the car.

Finally got around to picking one of these up and installed

Installation was a little trickier on the Canadian BRZ, but once I got my head around it, install was pretty straight forward

The easiest way to install is to remove the lower kick panel on drivers side only, forget out the passenger side, nothing to see over there

Once removed, reach up inside behind the stock push button start, you can see it and feel it, then push outward on the back of the switch. This will pop out the left hand corner of the panel above the switch. Then just go along with a proper panel removal tool all the way to the right and the whole thing will come right out. Took me about 10 minutes from start to finish

Any idea how long it takes for it to get shipped from Japan parts. And how are the duties and other charges when it reaches Canada.

Pretty quick. They're shipping is the main reason I've always used em. I highly doubt you'll have any duties to pay. I only hadda pay em on BIG items like the STi full kit, Louvers, etc.
