ROFL. Tired Jason is Tired. I thought you were taking about our exhaust, Mike!. Haaaa. All of the above still stands. We are an open book.

BTW I don't think I have ever felt as much rest from 6 hours of sleep before in my entire life.

I'd like to be the 132nd person to thank you guys for being up front and involved. It's always great to be a part of prototype aftermarket parts and seeing the process progress. I got a taste of this with my MCS back in '05 and I'm glad I get to do it again.

Question about the dyno posted. Is that -just- from the header?

Keep up the good work Jason and the rest of the guys (and gals?) @ Nameless. Some companies just design a part, give it a mock up and start selling it. Good to see a company put a lot of R&D into something. The "track axle back" you guys produce has inspired me to remove my axle back and get a "Y" fabbed so I can keep the stock appearance (dual exhaust, with stock tips even). I disconnected the axle-back last night and I think it sounds decent (not AMAZING by any means, but I'm not going to buy a cat/header back until more parts/reviews are avail).

Installed my axleback yesterday. Love it. Pics/impressions here, posts #s43-46.

I like the fact that Nameless didn't waste my money selling me a midpipe that doesn't improve the system. Also good that I can add any/all components forward of the axleback if I choose to later-love modular versatilty.

The graphs I am about to show compare two stock baseline runs that showed a difference of power vs. two similar fully modded (literally port to tailpipe w/ two high flow catalytic converters and full midpipe) runs.

Here's the full compiled graph of the two modded runs vs. two baseline runs. Note that at the top end we made 29hp. Granted, that the lowest modded power run vs. the lowest baseline, but the higher baseline wasn't recorded up that high and it certainly appeared to be going the same direction. :-(

I want everyone to get as much information as possible, and the reality is, our modded runs are extremely consistent while the factory baselines do show some variance from one pull to the next. The reality is those variations are going to exist in the real world and I want to show all of the data I have. On the main graph with everything shown, I have all four runs so that you can see there is very little variance between the modded runs (half the time one is higher, half the time the other is higher on both torque and hp). I took the run with the higher peak hp (by .6hp)/lower peak torque (by .25 ft lb) as the modified pull and compared it directly to the two baseline pulls and have generated the following graphs:

Horsepower:

Torque:

Here is some futher data on the gains at these points:

Monday we will be returning to the dyno to test Tainen's car as it sits right now: Exactly as these dyno graphs show but with the factory midpipe installed. After that we will be testing the helmholtz resonator to band pass the 125hz drone spot and doing some more testing then returning for more dyno pulls and jumping back into working on our intake options.

Temp/Humidity data on the pulls shown is as follows:

Stock Pull A: 65.55F, 62% Humidity
Stock Pull B 65.86F, 61% Humidity
Stepped Header, OP/DP, Midpipe, Street Axleback: 81.64F, 27% Humidity

Now, don't forget, we're not done with the header development. We could call it a day right here and start selling them, but we're pretty sure that more power can be had. For SCCA competitors requiring a catalytic converter in the downpipe, we will still be testing a 4-1, Catted, Stepped design as well.

And we are very confident that the midpipe doesn't show much of any gains in this system. We will know for certain on Monday. Another thing to note, we have certainly seen exhaust system gains in other naturally aspirated systems behaving in an asymptotic manner, meaning that just because you get 10hp out of a header and 10hp out of a catback does not mean you get 20hp out of a header + catback. We are going to try to swap the factory axleback into the Header + Overpipe/Downpipe combo after getting the 'As run at the track this weekend' version of the exhaust dyno'd on Monday and see how much power is lost from that as well.

I'll also try to get some video of the car tomorrow if it ever stops raining here. 23 days into June and it's still just rain rain rain. :-(

I think those are great gains for just an exhaust system/header. But it does show that there are some limitation to what you can gain, and I'm not seeing the gains on the top end like I want to.

Of course, this just means there is more restriction elsewhere. I'm just used to seeing higher output from engines rated at 200hp. this engine should be making 170whp easily in stock form. Sigh.

I feel there is going to be a lot of gains with ECU tuning and some bigger upgrades. Bolt ons are probably only going to get you to 180whp before you need a tune. After that, you may see 200whp max... all speculation of course.

Good work jason, I enjoy your posts immensely.

+30whp from just bolt-ons is amazing... I don't know how you are disappointed here. +50whp from bolt-ons and a tune will also be amazing if that's possible. This is a low displacement NA motor. It's not like you can just jack up boost and fuel and call it a day.

I made 170whp in my bone stock SR20VE in my sentra. The motor was rated at 187hp with 10.3:1 compression. I guess I was spoiled.

I think the output is great for a factory engine, but it should still be around 175whp dynojet in factory form. Perhaps it needs more breaking in.

I'm used to seeing stock civic SI putting out 180+whp stock, and I was hoping for a bit more pep. luckily, unlike my ve, aftermarket support for the fa20 will be awesome.

I'd like to see cams, and intake mani added on. I'll be excited to see these engines making 250whp.

You also have to remember this is RWD, typically you lose more than FWD cars.

And I also think you need to remember that there are a number of ways to make a dynojet read high or low. We use the same dynojet every single time for every one of our tests, and it has been known to read a bit low compared to other peoples machines, but I think that may be more of an issue with people pumping their numbers up on their dynos because they know a lot of customers who just go to 'dyno days' want to say 'I have billion horsepowerz!' I don't really care what the numbers are one way or another as long as I have a consistent machine that can establish a baseline and that I can determine the success or failure of my products by.

By the way after the dyno early this week I will be pulling the intake manifold and mapping the space available. We're on it.

I suppose 160whp is 20% drivetrain loss. Hard to beat that k20, they are underrated big time.

It would be amazing to see the FA20 come even within 15% of the power guys are getting out of the K20.

15+whp gain for just exhaust work is on the right track! I've been surprised at the output of this boxer engine, considering the lackluster performance of previous NA boxers from Subaru.

IMO these are very very impressive gains for a N/A 2 liter engine. Props to nameless for truthful advertising and real R&D testing.

I too agree that ECU tuning will be vital to maximize these gains.

Curious to see what mph you guys can put down in the 1/4 mile now with a full exhaust.
