Safety Inspection in Ontario
Well sadly the time for my brz is coming to an end and I have an offer to buy my car outright so I'm trying to get a safety done, I've never had a safety done to a car I've owned so not sure what to expect. My only main concern is that I'm catless. When I looked at the safety inspection manual under catalytic converter it doesn't say anything about reject if it's not there... just reject if there is a leak or it's broken...
Does anyone else have experience with safety? Also where in the GTA would you go for a safety? I don't really want Canadian tire guy recommending that I change my brake pads because they squeak without looking at them...

Pssssstttttttt!
I know a guy...JK Your answer is on page 12, section #1. It's a good idea to know the laws prior to going in. http://www.mto.gov.on.ca/english/tru...n-standard.pdf |

I've read that guide start to finish however in section 1 on page 13 where it lists catalytic converters it says reject if; - cracked, perforated or leaking - patched in any manner that is not consistent with industry standard Neither of these say reject if missing as per the muffler section so as far as I can see there is no issue with removing the cat as long as it is done properly

It's not an emissions test and as long as your exhaust is not leaking, IMHO you should be okay. |

Sad to hear you're selling it, brother!
What's next? Good luck with the transaction!

Doesn't it require an e-test with the sale still? Even if it'll pass a safety without the cat, it won't pass the e-test (assuming they do a visual inspection).

The buyer has to get it safetied and e-tested to plate it. However selling cars as-is turns off some potential buyers. |

Sorry, that's what I meant... it'll need an e-test for the new buyer to plate it.

a helpful hint, make sure the car is clean inside and out. if a car looks well kept, the potential is there that they will not be a thorough. |

On phone so can't pull the law but in Ontario it is illegal to remove or make ineffective any part of the emissions control system. The car will not pass a safety without it even if it doesn't say so in the safety check requirements. You need to look at all the laws involved not just one since they overlap.
Now that said, many places may just pass it anyway.
