I hate going to the parts store to ask for BMW M3 parts. I feel like a massive dbag after spending time on bimmerforums.

I have never spent any time on bf.com. I only visit it from links on a google search. I would stick with m3forum.net for the E36 M3. I wouldn't go to the parts store either. Have you seen the greatness that is Pelican Parts? They have a nice forum as well but it is mostly for Porsches.

I visit it to buy parts, otherwise google search results.

Pelican is cool but more expensive than ECS. Neither tend to have OEM parts in stock (BMW rebranded I mean, they have OEM equiv in stock at Pelican but I never know which are good vs shit replacements so I tend to go with the known shit BMW stuff ).

Used the Pelican forum for 964 research and such before

Oh and the auto parts store purchases were idiot bulb replacements for ABS and the CEL. Figured I'd replace the all important high coolant light too just because I was in there
