Miami muffler

Ok guys, took my car in to a prominent Muffler shop where they do high performance exhaust set ups.

They use stainless steel, mandrel bends and factory style hangars. Really good work( I've brought them most of my cars in the past.

I was thinking about a 2.5 inch mandrel bent catback exhaust in stainless steel with the least amount of bends possible while maintaining the single muffler setup.

They want to use a Magnaflow muffler, I haven't decided on whether to leave the resonator on or what. Should I buy a muffler and take it to them to install.

I really don't know how the Magnaflow will sound.

These are all concerns I have before pulling the trigger on a custom exhaust.

Please voice your opinions and options.

Maybe a dyno proven exhaust would be the answer. Again, this is why I choose to share my intentiOns for an exhaust on the forum.

Thanks and I hope to get a lot of replies!!

I really don't know how the Magnaflow will sound.
We use the magnaflow 12267 (12265 would be the 2.5" equivalent) for our quiet budget option WRX & STi Hatchback exhaust designs. It is EXTREMELY capable of keeping noise down but still has a pretty nice tone to it vs. the factory baffled muffler.

One note, it's 409 stainless steel, so it will have more of a potential to rust over time, especially with you being around salt air down there near the ocean. One option to avoid that is to simply grab some good stove paint in charcoal black and paint the muffler entirely up to where the inlet/outlets are welded into it.

I'd not run a resonator to start with if you run that 12265 and then add one if you think it is too loud, but I doubt you'll find that. Because there is so much interaction with the acoustic waves inside perforated Y in the Magnaflow muffler, there is almost no difference in adding vs. eliminating the resonator. Certainly no need to control drone or anything offensive.

Good luck! I'd be curious to hear what you're being quoted. There are a lot of great exhaust shops that do top notch TIG work out there, but all in all you will usually end up spending the same or more than you would with an off the shelf production system. If they're going to MIG weld it, make sure they use stainless wire. I do see that quite often where companies use stainless mandrel bends and don't even change out the spool/gas in their welders. When we do tacking with the MIG for prototyping we'll use 316 wire with Tri-Mix shielding gas. Works great. The Tri-Mix is CO2/Argon/Helium.

I had my exhaust for my B13. 3 piece, stainless steel, mandrel, and I supplied a fujitsubo resonator and legalis-r muffler.

Great work!

They already have a jig for a BRZ made with a magnaflow, ask them about it and also a a good price.

I would have done it with them but it is kind of a drive from Ft Lauderdale plus we make our own exhaust systems in house

Whoa when did that happen? They were going to create one based on my car but work screwed up that plan (unfortunately.. cost me money of going to Miami and a hotel room.. ..|.. work!). Curious which car they used instead.

That's news to me as well. I wasn't aware they had already test fit one.

I have magnaflows system on my car. I wouldnt pay money for it unless all you're looking for is a deeper cold idle sound.

Well they were planning on a full system.. overpipe, downpipe and catback (midpipe/axleback). At least a company that sells exhausts was planning on having them fabricate them.

I contacted the owner of BRM exhaust today to inquire on the status of this project.

I was told that they are almost done with the finishing touches on the jig (fitted at Miami Muffler) and will be sold and shipped to the general public through BRM Exhaust in the near future.

http://www.brmexhaust.com/

While they mainly advertise products for Nissan/Infiniti vehicles, they do fantastic exhaust systems for many other platforms. I've known a ton of Nissan owners who love their BRM exhausts. It's hard to find a better quality unit for a better price.. You can check out the pricing some of the Nissan products on their webpage to get an idea. I'm sure on the pricing yet, but I suspect the BRZ/FRS system will be a little higher than typical 240sx system because it's true dual exhaust and thus needs more parts and more piping. Still.. I'm sure it will be a very attractive price!

I went down there 2 days after I got my car on May 26th nd they told me they had a BRZ coming down to them on a wednesday to do an exhaust for a company out of state (I guess that was probably your car), but I couldn't make it back to them due to the distance plus I decided to do it at our shop.
