MAPerformance FA20 Short Block

Hey everyone! We are happy to announce that we are offering FA20 short blocks! We have been so crazy busy around here with other projects lately, but we finally got around to focusing on this beauty. We have over 8 years building Subaru engines, as well as many other platforms (primarily 4G63 engines, GM LS engines, 2JZ etc).

Included Services

  • FA20 Crankshafts are never cut or turned, and they receive a micro-polish treatment and balancing specifically for high performance race applications.
  • The First step in the machining process is resurfacing. We pride ourselves on the surface finish (RA) we achieve as it is of the utmost importance in regards to head gasket sealing.
  • Next, we bore the sleeves square to the deck surface. Our MAP FA20 specific torque plate is used to ensure roundness. The overbore is followed with a four step plateau honing process that provides the absolute best cylinder wall finish and ultimate ring seating.
Included Components

  • OEM Toyota FA20 Main and Rod Bearings Installed With MAPerformance Specs
  • Option of Carrillo Pro H Beam Connecting Rods W/ CARR Bolt Upgrades, or Manley Turbo Tuff I Beam Rods
  • JE Forged FA20 Pistons (compression ratio ranging from 9.5:1 to 13.5:1)
Options

  • Crankshaft: We use standard size OEM crankshafts most frequently as we have not had a crankshaft failure to date. However, we realize that there are weight advantages and stroke options available with some aftermarket crankshafts so we will happily build your shortblock accordingly!
  • Pistons:If you would like to go with a different brand of pistons or are interested in a custom compression ration please give us a call.
Core Options

No core? No Worries! Simply select a new OEM FA20 short block option above for us to use as a starting point. New OEM FA20 engine cores require less cleaning, preparation and machine work compared to used FA20 shortblocks.

Please PM me for pricing info or any questions you may have

Very interesting.

Whats the cost difference between a new short block and the rebuild of a used?

How does cylinder work (honing/ over boring/etc) compared to motors with a iron sleeve?

I'm pretty sure @Element Tuning figured out that the rod bearings are prone to oil starvation and spinning as a consiquence. Was there any thought to upgrading those? Or is it possible to add different bearings?

Yes sir. We are aware of the potential bearing issues with these engines, especially at the higher torque outputs. It's not my engine builders ideal situation to use OEM bearings, but there isn't a ton of options at the moment. However, we would be more than happy to upgrade to an aftermarket bearing of your choice no problem.

There really isn't a big difference. If you do plan on sending in your core, we will over bore it typically .10 to .20 over with matching pistons.

I wonder if a built block, but with stock compression ratio + turbo would be worth it.

I do plan on running e85. I like the smell of fries in the morning. Hmmm....20psi on a built stock CR block would be something.
