Just rolled over 500 miles on the new pump. Still very quiet. As stated before, the engine sounds different than before the new pump. I'll continue to update this thread.

I apologize if this was already asked, answered before or is just a stupid question....the Chirping due to the pump...if we experience this it should be covered by the dealer no? Again, sorry for my inexperience and the question....

Sweet, I figured but I wasn't 100% sure. It seems more like a nuisance then anything..kinda like Hondas and there valvetrain noise

My car is ready, I'll be picking it up after work and updating every 300 miles on the new pump.

Everyone with a 2013, and some 2014's that don't have the latest pump, are eligible for the new pump replacement. Some dealers may try to deny those who've installed turbo's and superchargers, but even then those mod's shouldn't have an arguable impact on replacing a well known issue all FT86's have with the High Pressure Fuel Pump (HPFP). To get a replacement, contact your dealer. If they question it at all, print the TSB as proof for your claim. |

It is a nuisance, if it doesn't bother you it doesn't have to be replaced, the Subaru TSB's states that there is no detriment to keeping the original pump.

Thanks for all the previous posts - the video to confirm that my "clacking" is the same as your "chirping", and the TSB. Mine didn't make that noise until more than a year in, or 14,000 miles. I brought the TSB with me for an oil change, explained the problem, and they have ordered the new pump. There are 67 pumps back-ordered before mine, but I'll get it eventually.
Normally, I'd be very uncomfortable bringing something like this up, or even going to the dealer service at all, but I came prepared and I think they were impressed. |
