Wanted to follow up with everyone that I ended up at $33,800 OTD. Got a great deal, and with the 1% rate reduction because of the auto show this month, plus the grad discount ontop of that, everything worked out great. Signed the papers today and couldn't be more excited.

I purchased a yellow edition in Dec when they first announced it. Only got a small discount on price (but considering they are only bringing in 100 to Cda I suspect there isn't much room to negotiate). I did get the dealer to throw in some accessories. which I suspect they account for in a different way. I really liked the bright yellow/black trim (that's a personal preference thing). Also wanted the performance package (which is only available in Cda in the yellow edition for now) which got very positive reviews in the US where it is available on all trims. Hey life is short - I'll remember how much fun I have had with the car long after I have forgotten how much it cost!!!

Sure no problem. It was actually pretty easy. I emailed every single subaru dealer in my area, asking them what their best OTD price for a 2017 BRZ manual sport tech. You have to come across as a serious buyer. I told them I'm looking for their best OTD price and I'm ready to buy immediately.

Not every dealer will email you back. Some don't like negotiating over email cuz it gives them less power to pressure you as opposed to being in person. A few should get back to you though, and hopefully some of them are offering a discount off MSRP. Whoever offers the lowest price, take that number and email/call all the dealers you've been talking to, and say "so-and-so dealership offered me $XXX off, can you beat that?". Rinse and repeat until you get to a number thats comfortable for you. I believe the margin on a BRZ sport tech is about $2500 for dealerships, so use that as your basis for negotiation. You'll eventually get to a point where the dealers won't go any lower, and at that point just take the best offer you've received and buy that car. IMO its best to do all negotiations over email/phone even before you get to the dealer. It can be intimidating sometimes with all the pressure and sales tactics they might try on you in person, so doing it all over email or phone beforehand alleviates that.

You could also be really bold and just say in your initial email "I would like to buy a 2017 BRZ and I want $XXXX amount off. I'm ready to buy today." Again if you come across as a serious buyer they may go for this.

Make sure they tell you about any and all extra fees. Most dealers charge a DOC fee (listed as 'Other Fees' on subaru website when you build/price a car), but some dealers will charge more than others, and may even tack on extra fees. make sure you're aware of all the numbers before you sign.

You can also use services like Easy Car Discount http://www.easycardiscount.com/ . I've found them to be very helpful in the past.

Good luck! feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.
