Couldn't tell you what the tach says for each of my shifts since I never ever even look at it and my shift points vary with the type of driving I am doing at that point anyway. It might as well not exist for all I use it for driving. I just drive with no more thought given to shifting than I give to braking or steering.
This is mostly me. I look at rpm when I'm trying to get some good MPG... but most occasion I don't look at it either.

Do you want here looking at the road or at the dash all the time? Teach her to shift and know what gear she is in by sound and feel not by an indicator on the dash.

Don't jump the gun, old man.

She doesn't look at the indicator. When she was test driving new WRX, it's on automatically and she was just wondering about that question. She's still new and learning how to drive MT and just asking simple Q&A that got me off guard.

Of the 100+ MT vehicles I have driven maybe 10 even had one so I never got in the habit of looking at it for any reason.

HMMMMM Not sure I jumped any gun when my response is taken in the context of your question.

Hey, she's learning how to drive MT k, give her a break... or she'll ban your ass. You think, I'm cold-blooded... don't mess w her
Yeah I mean I know generally, especially if I'm driving hard. Sometimes though you're sitting in traffic for awhile at a slow speed and then your like 2k rpm at 40 mph that's 4th right? And then you look down at the shifter which could be in any of the even numbered gears...

Funny I know a guy that has been driving stick for idk a good 15 years and keeps buying sports cars cuz he is loaded. He still doesn't know how to properly rev match or heel and toe. One day he told me that it took him two months until his neighbor couldn't stand by watching him struggle and walked over one day and offered lessons. I guess that old man never taught him sports driving basics.

Of cuz he doesn't want to learn from me since his wife went to high school with me and that the BRZ is my first stick shift daily so that would somehow make him look bad?

I learned to drive stick in a 1940s army jeep that was used for bombin around my (not immediate) families ranch in Texas. No tach, maybe a speedometer? That is the way to go as far as learning by feel. Even my first real driving lessons on actual roads were my father's old Izuzu pickup (in Connecticut where I actually live). That one deff had a speedometer at least. Now that I know though I don't think too much information can hurt you really unless it's distracting.

How is this confusing? You didn't make a statement you asked a question.

The questions was "Gearshift indicator? Do you think, I have turn that on in my brz?"

My response was indirectly "no" but asked in a rhetorical format.
