2013 - MT - 18k miles - Issues.

Whats going on guys...I am a touch under 18k miles on my 2013 and I have a couple problems. I brought it into the dealership today with the following problems:
  • Chirping noise - They are changing out the fuel pump.
  • Weather striping driver side folding up - They are replacing the weather striping.
  • Shifter rattling - Could not recreate the problem so nothing being fixed.
  • RPM drop - Could not recreate the problem so nothing being fixed.
  • Difficulty starting (turning over) at times - Could not recreate the problem so nothing being fixed.
  • Condensation rear tail light - Being replaced with a new one.

Everything being fixed is covered under warranty and they supplied me with a "rent a car" until everything is fixed. The mechanic working on my car owns a BRZ and he has had some of the same problems. Hopefully others do not have similar problems...but if you do they should fix it no questions asked. On a side note...I picked up some metal on the road the other day and had to get a replacement tire...I attached a picture...I never had a piece of metal that large in a tire before lol.

Wouldn't bother with, gonna come back. Although the "crickets" are a huge issue on this forum. Curb-stomping babies is comparable as far as how terrible the chirps are. The "chirping" is HIGHLY over-complained about around here.

*Weather striping driver side folding up - They are replacing the weather striping.
I've heard of this issue/complaints about marks on the window. Might just be a wear/tear item. I guess we'll see. Try and keep the rubber/window clean?

*Shifter rattling - Could not recreate the problem so nothing being fixed.
You can't replicate this by driving at 4.5k or higher? Mine ALWAYS does it then. Is it a rattle sound, or the shifter itself rattles?

*RPM drop - Could not recreate the problem so nothing being fixed.
Pickup an OFT, a tune should help stabilize the idle. Having the A/C on will usually help identify the rpm idle drop.

*Difficulty starting (turning over) at times - Could not recreate the problem so nothing being fixed.
Dunno. Is it cold? hot? Slow turn over? Just wont start? Elaborate please!

*Condensation rear tail light - Being replaced with a new one.
Common issue. New one should be good. Also, the seal/gasket on the back isn't the best, possible to make new one. Check for DIY on making better one.

I have all of these problems at 47,000 miles.

Chirp comes back
weather stripping still messed up
left tail light recently started getting condensation again
Shifter rattle seemed to be solved with a weighted shift knob
RPM drop was solved by a tune from Vishnu (Open flash tablet)
Cold start I only run into during the cold winter months.

Car still runs great though!

OMG is that the blade of a sword?

Most of your issues are common annoyances that many of us have had to deal with at some point. The one I'd be most adamant about warranty repair is the idle dip if you're 100% certain it's not from the AC compressor kicking on/off causing the engine rpm to occasionally dip and jump, etc.

Chirping is a known issue with essentially all HPFP across all manufacturers. So I'd half expect it to come back. Many of us have had success quelling the chirp with a tiny amount (2-3 ounces for a full tank) of 2-stroke oil or Lucas upper cylinder lube.

Weatherstripping is an easy fix should it occur again after warranty.

Tail light condensation will probably happen again, but it's an easy fix should it reappear. Water runs right onto the gasket that "seals" it to the body, and it erodes and allows water to wick past. The most permanent fix is sealant in one of a couple areas. Check the many threads on this for more details if this happens again outside of warranty.

2 oz of 2 stroke oil will quiet the chirps. I use Valvoline multi-purpose 2 stroke oil. You can get it at Autozone for a few dollars for a quart.

Ya that deer was spread across three lanes of the highway. The bulk was two lanes over so I figured I was safe. NOPE!
Didn't take a picture of the raccoon bits I scooped up into the grill once and it was just TOOOOO messy!
Only in Canada EH!

Subaru has a TSB out for the RPM drop. Next time, show your service tech the print-out of the TSB (11-136-14) and demand to have your ECU reflashed. That's what I did, avoids the whole "can't recreate problem." There's also a TSB for the rough starts (11-130-13R). Check your VIN number to see if you qualify for both TSBs.

For list of TSBs, look here - https://www.ft86club.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21868

Most of these are known issues with no real fix and will just come back.

There's no effort from the factory to fix taillight condensation or rolling up window gaskets. Get them replaced and they'll just do it again.

HPFP is apparently "normal". RPM drop that may cause stalls is also "normal".

These are the niggling little issues I really wish they'd solve on this car instead of coming out with a new "series this" or "special that" model. It's quite disappointing they don't attempt to take care of existing owners.

I have 2014 with a 1000 miles and my weather strips already looks like they are pealing or wearing away.

Shifter is easy. Just drive in 3rd and let the rpms go above 4k while you're mashing the throttle.

You can feel a plastic tube through the leather near the bottom where the shaft goes up. Squeeze(wrap your thumb and index finger around) that while you accelerate...the noise subdues. I'm going to try wrapping a thick, heavy rubber band around mine to dampen the sound.

For the starting problem, do not try to start the engine until your gas needle moves to it's final position...then crank the car. The time it takes for your gas needle to move is almost exactly the time it takes to reach over and put on your seatbelt.

Enter car, sit down, put key in and turn but do not start...put seatbelt on(needle has now finished moving), then start car.

Saw your post. Everything you list is wrong is happing to me @ 3k. even the drive side weather strip which I'm glad wasn't just me. When I take it in for its second oil change, (first I paid for), I'll address the issues. Let see how it goes.
