Good deal or not?

Hey guys, I was bored at lunch and stumbled upon a used BRZ while searching the web. Its a 6MT Limited for sale at a local dealer for $25,994 (plus tax, title, etc.). Its got 2,100 miles on the odometer. Its hard to tell if the price is good or not since there's only one more used BRZ on sale in a 150 mile radius of me.

Not really IMO

I rather buy new and know that break in was done right and that the car wasn't used as a test car that got beat on

No one can tell you if its worth it or not.

If the savings worth it to you? Are you comfortable paying that much? Probably not since you made this thread.

Pass on it.

I think it depends where in the country you are... $26K for a used BRZ with 2k miles would be a steal in California/West Coast. East Coast... probably not that great.

if you trying to save over half of new car's price, then yes.
i wouldnt try to save $1000-$2000 for used one. i will just invest $1000-$2000 for new one

might as well just get a brand new one, payments wont be THAT much more and you have the peace of mind that the car was not flogged prior to you driving it

New with VIP should be comparably priced, if not cheaper. There are a few organizations you can pay a token fee to in order to get the VIP discount.

There are many cars I would buy used; Camry, Corolla, Accord, CRV, etc. There are many cars I wouldn't buy used; Corvette, Porsche, BRZ, FR-S. There's too big a risk that the previous owner whipped it. According to the manufacturer the first 1,000 miles require a dedicated owner if you want your car initiated like the factory suggests. I'm not starting an arguement for or against driving it like you stole it. I'm just saying there's a good chance that the owner drove it like he stole it.

You'd save roughly a little over $1/mile; that sounds pretty good to me! That's assuming you could find a new BRZ at MSRP of $28,265. Usually they have at least a few hundred bucks in stupid accessories. You can always try finding a new one and negotiating the lowest price you can, and then do the same with the used one.

I wouldn't worry too much about people being too rough on the car. It only has 2100 miles. It's not like anyone installed a turbo kit and raced it for 3 years, returned it to stock for sale. That's when you have to worry about buying a used sports car. Generally not a few months old.

I would see how much I could get one new using a VIP buying program. There are quite a few out there. USAA, IMBA, Costco, etc. Take that quote and try to talk this dealer down as far as possible. Don't be afraid to insult them with a lowball offer, they'd do the same to you. See what you can get.

Just a thought to keep in mind. I have a friend that is a retired car salesman. He sold Toyotas. Since I have USAA I was curious to get his thoughts on their buying program they offer members. He told me that USAA and others, including Costco are good for people that have no idea how to negotiate but a person could get a better price if they negotiated. Another thing he told me that was quite a surprise is they have an agreement with USAA, Costco and others. That agreement is that once you mention one of those programs and they give you the agreed price under the guidelines of that program they can not negotiate with you any further. It then becomes a take-it-or-leave-it deal.
