1. Depreciation makes the used market for these cars attractive, especially for young people just out of college with decent jobs; when a clean one hits the market they do seem to disappear fast.
2. People today take out 8-10 year loans, especially young people who therefor have to hold onto it for that long because they are underwater on the loan.
3. They are generally reliable and people want to hold onto them since there isn't much competition.
4. In 2013, the first model year for the car, they only sold 18,000 of them new.
5. They have continued to cut production numbers.
6. For a while, it was reported that 60% of the Toyotaburu models were manual, further making the auto rare.

I've noticed more used models out in Middle America where trucks and muscle cars are more popular. But like you mention, the next day you can check and half of the listings seem to be gone.

You might need to bite the bullet and get a less than stellar one and negotiate the dent removal off the price.

FWIW, I'm in ATL, Dents&Dings in Alpharetta does a fantastic job at PDR, and is pretty affordable. I got 3 door dings pulled from my car including 1 on the rear fender for $100.

The body panels on these cars are really thin. Someone here actually dented his roof support above the door by leaning on it the wrong way. I got some door dings before learning how to park the car to avoid them, and even then I got a couple more. I had a dealership swap my plugs at 60K miles, and they dented the fender when they lifted the engine, it looks like from leaning heavily on the top edge of it. I have rock dings in my hood as well.

If I were looking at used ones, I would kind of expect dents. The only way you're not going to have dents is if the prior owner just left it in the garage all the time and never drove it.

On mine, I'm going to keep collecting dents until it's time for a repaint, then have them all taken out at once. And then the process will start all over.
I'm not nearly carful enough.

Bent mine with my hand right over the B-pillar while I was buffing out the wax on my roof. :/

Also in my first dent collection cycle.

In the car's defense I don't think much will stand up to you leaning on it!

Dents larger than like 2 inches in diameter that are very noticeable to the eye upon first glance is unacceptable to me when the cars are priced at $15-17K

Normal Wear and Tear Dings and Scratches is cool though

Yes I checked out this place. Right now their inventory is trash, Cars not cleaned, omg you should see them. But I still have faith in them and I check them regular for new cars.

Yes, yes it is.

Lower your standards or buy new... which is basically the same two options imho...

Check out classifieds here and be willing to fly to get one, there are flawless cars for sale, but they will be few and far between while costing a premium.

Really? I would think in the bay area especially that there are lots of clean used 86/BRZ for cheap. This isnt the case?

Well there's plenty, and some of them are cheap.

Clean and cheap is the hard part, and with how picky people can be about what 'clean' means (it varies between: minor blemishes are ok to factory fresh perfect). But assuming you mean ~$15k max and no obvious blemishes, <70k miles, and no bodywork required based on ad alone.

I found one on Craigslist
https://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/cto...705414189.html
Zero on Autotrader
Zero on Cars.com

This one is crashed by the way, no VIN tag on the trunk lid:

But there must be many perfect yet really cheap ones out there!
Everybody selling on here complains that they get nothing for their pristine cars when they trade or sell. There should be loads of perfect cars at rock bottom prices for all the people looking to buy.
That is how it works isn't it?
