Engine Cooling options
Hello
I have been taking my car to the track and I have couple questions on engine cooling. 1. after 4 laps the car is at 250 degrees, I don't know if its too hot or not, can somebody tell me @ what temp will it become an issue for our engine? 2. if cooling is needed, should I be looking at a upgraded radiator as well as an oil cooler? what other options do I have? 3. also what brand do most people recommend? Thank you for your help! |

The coolant temperature at 250 degrees F should be OK, as long as the coolant hasn't reached its boiling point. The boiling point is determined by the coolant composition and the pressure the coolant is under. So, with a coolant mixture of 50/50 water/ EG, and at a pressure of 15 psi, the engine should be OK running at 250 degrees F. However, I wouldn't run an engine too long at that temperature. Wait - someone is coming along - humfrz |

You need to get that oil temp down. The rad is probably fine.

What is the safe maximum, constant, (lap after lap) oil temp for the twins on the track with thicker track oil ?

250 would be "safe" but if you are hitting that high on a regular basis then you are running the risk of going over which could be a problem.

I hit 250 on every run at Laguna last weekend with my Forester XT oil cooler.
Sounds like we both need something more heavy duty. |
