Yea, didn't really care for it. I do most of the work myself. Just another weekend of work. Dealers never do anything right for me so the less work they do the better I guess.

Mine wants regular book value to do the plugs and serpentine belt even though they have to pull and reinstall them. There are also a couple of seals I'd like changed while they have things apart but now I'm looking for another dealer that's more accommodating to bring it to.

assuming we wanted to put in some stronger internals, what would be the easy things to upgrade?

No. A dealer would have to be stupid to do this.

I'll say that there is nothing "easy" to replace as they would still have to do the engine tear down - not enough is removed as part of the process to upgrade rods/pistons etc. If you could get access to the engine you could look at doing some of the oil path mods discussed in other threads as the front cover is coming off, but as far as internals go I reckon you'll still pay a small fortune in labour at dealer rates IF they're happy to do the work in the 1st place.

I'm getting spark plugs (parts$only), motor mounts (I provided parts, install will be labour only, less than half hour), and the recall work. I also asked them to take a look at the oil pan (rust) and clutch (155km), so depending on the report i'll consider work there. Dropped it off a couple of hours ago so should hear on the clutch/oil pan soon.

I have 2013 frs with 83k miles on it. I can hear my second TOB going bad again they they replaced under warranty. I will see if they will replace that and the serpentine belt. Do you goes think the water pump should be replaced ? I'm going this afternoon to dealer for the initial inspection to confirm and order the recall parts.

Why replace the water pump? If it's pumping fine and doesn't leak or squeak, I'd just leave it be.

I haven't heard anywhere about the water pump being a weak link -

I think as a preventative measure, it's not the worst thing to consider on a car that's over 80k. Better to have peace of mind, than wondering why your coolant temp is pegging red. Hell if I had the money, I'd replace more an just eat labor all day. Partial labor is better than full labor!

EDIT:: My opinion may stem from owning several E36 BMWs. I won't take back what I said though

Yeah I haven't really heard of any issues with the water pump. Just looks to see what would be good to replace while engine out. Already did the spark plugs. I was trying to see on the PDF for the repair manual if shows if the water pump has to come out. I did notice transmission fluid change . Biggest thing is the throw out bearing if they can do for part cost only

I'm sitting at the dealer now. They doing initial inspection and will order the parts. Parts will take 3 days to come in but possible 2-3 weeks to get repair done since they only have a handful of mechanics that can do it.

Yeah I was thinking preventive maintenance. I have the car since it had 7k on it and drive a lot for work. Oem Water pump MSRP price is like 188.xx and it's not cheap but notice price on AutoZone was like $217 for this car.
