I agree. You buy a Mitia for the open top. Yes the extra bit makes a difference but really how much? Is it worth 4-7K? Not in my eyes.

I Googled their Cliche Corner and it's right by Fogolars Country Club at Lower Baseline Road in Oakville. Not sure where the other roads they filmed are.

Never occurred to me that Oakville and Milton have a lot of curvy roads.

Local(ish) dealer is offering me an '18 GT for $22K (MSRP $31.5K). Wife is car-blocking right now, though. Gotta convince her it's worth it...

They'll do something like Subaru BRZ TS RA spec A type G.

Recaro racing seats, even bigger rear spoiler, lightweight alloys, Alcantara everywhere replacing the leather/leathery stuff.
Rear seat delete, more suspension tweaks. Its now harder and stiffer!

And have the same 205hp!

The 86/BRZ isn't Subaru's own car like the WRX STI, the Toyota gods would have to approve first.

Subaru of course have much more important things to tend to.

^^ That STI is riced out with like $5 double sided tape on parts you'd find in autozone.

15 red pin stripes on the exterior, tacked on trims, and piano black everywhere inside the car... vomit. Subaru is trying too hard in the areas where it really doesn't need to.

It's not a question of matching the ND2, it's a question of getting close for less money. Slightly lighter rods and pistons are always a nice to have but chances are the engine isn't going to blow up if you don't swap them out.

To get the higher rpms safely the valve springs should probably be swapped out, and while you're at it, the cams might as well be swapped out too. That should pick up a decent chunk of the power difference.

Again, if the ND1s drop in price fast enough, this could be a cheap, fun project.

Subaru of course have much more important things to tend to.
I can assume that there is more bureaucracy to make decisions and have an agreement between the two companies. It has been like this in the past too. However, the BRZ has been at the center of their evolution with an influence on the rest of their model line maybe even more than the WRX or STI. For example, the lower center of gravity in the new global platform is based on what they learnt from the BRZ. Same can be said about the current WRX and STI models where there wasn't much change from the previous model, apart from the improved steering and the new WRX engine which came again directly from the BRZ. The new FA24 engine in the Ascent model belongs again to the same family of engines starting with the one of the BRZ. Overall, I believe that Subaru has a great benefit from this collaboration and given the improvement of the Mazda engine (*) they'll have to provide an answer.

(*) Not a direct competitor, but these two cars have been compared heavily in the past by journalists and even by the manufacturers.

I never said anything about matching cars. You mentioned the changes that were on the new engine, and I simply elaborated further on what all was actually done.

The ND2 is basically a slightly dialed back version of the BBR 200 package from the factory.

http://www.bbrgti.com/product/bbr-mx-5-nd-super-200/

Realistically, getting an ND1 to ND2 power levels will run about $1500 or so, excluding the valvetrain; which is pretty cheap at the end of the day.

Guess it just depends on what you’re wanting to do. To some (myself included) the 2019 is worth the wait and sticker price. Though I’m still not 100% if that’s what I’m going to do

2018s are going for like 8k off MSRP right now. So if somebody is on the fence and wants to get a great deal, now is probably the time.
