^^thankfully the Si has a helical LSD.

Unfortunately it's ridiculously ugly.

The new SI is just another appliance now. It used to have soul and character. (V-tech, naturally aspirated)

I'd snatch up a 2015 SI if I had the extra money since you can still find them with super low mileage. Would be my ideal second car.

I would never fault anyone for saving the $$$ and choosing the new Si, considering you get more standard equipment over a stock 86 or BRZ, plus the extra MPGs, space and comfort. Also, surprisingly, it isn't that much heavier.

Engineering Explained mentioned the rev hang is bad, which is unfortunate.

All this to say that the 86 platform is aging quickly, and the Civic platform was over-engineered, in addition to economies of scale that make it possible to create a high value Si - not that the cars are likely to be cross shopped (but I really have no idea.)

Doesn't have a CD player...it's already lacking standard equipment in my department. I'm dead serious about this.

Does Honda expect me to shove my CDs my ass?
Or do they expect me upload everything to a USB and listen to mixed albums with a 2-3sec gap between each transition since they can't get the software to work properly?

I mean I could use my phone...but than I run into battery/space issues.

You know...I'm in rant mode now.

I don't understand the concept of removing CD players when millions of people still buy CDs and even more still have CDs.
(I know why...bigger screens, but they should still have a CD player somewhere...in the glove box or trunk at least for us music NERDS)
I would gladly use a USB and keep buying CDs for collection purposes....but many car manufacturers can't get the feature to work properly.

Even in my FRS. I've tried playing USB vs CD and with the USB the quality is drastically worse. (Same audio settings for both) The audio becomes very flat compared to the CD.

So as dumb as it sounds....I'd never buy a car without a CD player, unless the USB feature works properly.

So have you driven a new SI or are you just basing your opinion off of the car's mechanical specifications?

Millions of people still have cassette tapes, doesn't mean they are not dated technology. CDs are a joke compared to a cheap USB drive.

I am actually surprised to hear there is no CD player. I know the SC430 was the last car to have a cassette player, but I figured CD was still considered essential in cars...

Aren't there CD > USB adapters or something, so you could hardwire a player in the passenger footwell or something?

The last gen Si was nothing remarkable, so to place it higher on a pedestal than the new one seems silly to me. Neither is that great. And nothing about the new Civic makes the BRZ's platform seem dated. That's ridiculous.

As an aside I bought a brand new car last month and the CD player is actually mounted in the glovebox! So some carmakers are listening to you!

Hmm Honestly tho, how many of you have driven the new SI or a new Turbo Civic in any of its iterations? All I can say is its kind of weird.... like no vtec no screaming engine just like refinement and torque like the car really moves! let's not forget they targeted the WHOLE Civic line with the Audi A3 from last gen. So if the darn thing drives more refined and is closer to a VW then I think they've hit the target well. Perhasp Honda's target for the SI isn't the same demographic before (the this is my first sports car performance car) that market went to the BRZ/FRS at this point. But it's targeting the people who wanted more refinement and a little more speed in a Sedan or Coupe (remember the Civic is the last FWD coupe you can buy and you get a hell lots more in terms of tech and package than a BRZ) It's made for people who doesn't care about performance. I think Honda is betting itself on the Enthusiast will just buy the Civic Type R. Which I think they will.

Remember Statistically speaking the enthusiast crowd is small and at this point, they're about our age, with few younger generation caring about HP/TQ but more if the car has android auto or car play. The Civic SI is also American, it's based on the Touring and EX trim, while the Type R is actually an LX upgraded. That's saying something in ride quality and interior quality. Things we might not care about, but other people will I bet you the Si that stupid thing will sell anyways. (Not the coupe Honda has reported that only 30% of sales are coupe, sucks for the last coupe of the affordable market thats not RWD(good for us))

Besides that back to the Si, It's a great car, it's still a fun car. It's just not the car you remembered starting your performance car owning experience and it's definitely not the EK9 you wanted it to be like in the 2000s, World has moved on! If you're looking however for another 2015 style civic si, go buy a Hyundai they have the 2.0 Sport that's very similar and is just as well equipped (no LSD of course)

well, I suppose the last affordable one of that size, that whole segment doesn't sell well anymore. They're nothing competing against Honda in the FWD affordable coupe anymore. Kia has stopped its coupe thing, and Honda Civic coupe's only competition is the accord coupe which is rumored to go away most likely with the next update. They just don't sell well.

That's crazy. It seems like just yesterday that we had the Kia Forte Coupe, Scion tC, Cobalt coupe, and stuff like that available. Soon all the compact cars will be CUVs I guess.
