Why do some folks wipe/delete their sold classified ads?

Just curious as to why they even bother. Isn't such history a valuable indicator to market value?

They do not want people to keep asking if it is still available. Yes, people do that shit all the time! Be a pain in the ass to try and look for something for sale just to keep finding "sold" on each post.

Not a good indicator of value anyway and could confuse people. Prices are based on supply and demand and can be very different based on time and region. Some guy in Utah selling a front bumper in 2013 for $1,000 is not a good indicator of value of the same bumper in LA in 2016 where the supply can set the value at $200 (prices are illustrative only and do not necessarily reflect actual values). This variation in price does not apply to retailers so much because they of course cover all regions but have a huge impact on the price that can be asked for used or second hand things.

I'd rather they just add 'sold' in the subject, so when I go to check on an add I was thinking about, I'd know, rather than spend time hunting, and searching for it.

"Sold" added to the topic does not deter some people from asking if it is still for sale though. If the item is sold the thread should just go away after a period of time. If you go looking for something that was sold 3 months ago and can't find the thread right away then odds are going on a search is not going to help much anyway.

I don't know how to edit titles, so I post "sold" as the last post and then report the thread to the mods asking if they can lock it for me. So far they haven't yelled at me for my misuse of the reporting tool.

In your original thread post hit "edit" then "go advanced" in there you can edit the title at the top of the edit window. - hope that helps.

That is not misuse. In fact that is exactly what they ask you to do.
