Hate being forced to take an hour break at work. Always been used to taking about 10-15 minutes to eat and getting back to it. Like what’s the point of being there if I’m not getting paid? Been going out on little cruises and finding some decent roads here surprisingly. Helps clear my head a bit and puts me in a good mood to finish the day

What/who forces you to take an hour break?

Heck, I always liked the hour lunch break - eat in 15 minutes then lay down on my office floor and nap for 45 minutes -

What's a 'lunch break'? I'm at my desk all day, make a cup of tea, back to my desk, sandwiches eaten at my desk while working.... And I agree what's the point of forced breaks if you're not paid for them!!

actually, that's the exact point (the no pay part). In the US labor laws are a combination of federal and state law. Federal regulations require payment for breaks of short duration (under 30 minutes) but do not regulate anything above that. In Georgia, employers do not have to pay for breaks over 30 minutes.

Because of that most employers with non-exempt employees (hourly vs salary) build in at least a 30 minute mandatory break for consistency of scheduling.

If you are hourly, and take less than 30 minutes but are scheduled to work, say 8:00am to 4:30pm then by taking less than a 30 minute break you would end up earning overtime, which may not be required, but if you work your full 8.5 hour shift then the company is obliged to pay overtime.

In my opinion only, in the end, unless you are 100% productive all the time, even if don't "take lunch" somewhere during the day the company has paid you for time you weren't doing productive work for them.

Like right now for instance, while I'm typing this message. Don't tell anyone though.

Deskbound work has its ups and downs... production line I presume is treated differently and I hope that the workers get the right breaks and that they're paid breaks..

I don't know any company that pays for breaks over 30 minutes. If anything you would be penalized for not taking it.

Doesn't mean there aren't any but it would be a small minority.
