30° weather will not effect a battery at all. It's not until the temps get into the teens (to a battery, that's cold) that a battery will notice. That battery was going to go no matter what the temp was.
Hot weather damages a battery. Cold weather exposes a weak battery. |

Having worked on battery installation and doing jump starts for 10 years, I can tell you that the incidents of batteries needing to be jumped doesn't increase even into the 20's. Our company has stats on that.
Once again, reality trumps theory. |

I'm surprised to read the battery life expectations are so low. I thought OE batteries would go 5 years easy.

Battery life expectations up north are significantly longer than down south. Use, abuse and the temps where you live have a lot more to do with your battery life than the quality of the battery itself.
Heat kills batteries, so along the southern US batteries just don't last well. |

Had my 2015 BRZ with OEM battery and just took it for its 30k service. They ended up finding the battery down to 290 from the 320 amps (correct me if im wrong) so the battery was replaced, under warranty

If your Keyfob's battery is drained there is a procedure to start the car. Just need to position the keyfob to make contact with the push button while pushing it and it will relay the signal to the immobilizer to allow the car to start up.
