Check Engine Light

My check engine light was triggered today. The code that came up indicated the ECU lost communication with the dashboard instruments (or something like that). I can guess it was the presence of my cheap Chinese Bluetooth ECU reader I was using next to a power plant. Maybe the big electric fields were picked up by the unshielded/ungrounded reader.

What really surprised me is how gimped the vehicle becomes when the check engine light comes on: 4000 rpm limit, no cruse control, automatic gears messed up. The automatic may have messed up because of the rpm limit, but I had to switch to manual mode to drive comfortably on the highway back to the dealer's repair shop. All they did was the reset, so if I get the same error I can do that part myself.

This car drives very weird if you can't go over 4000 rpm. It just sort of get's stuck in gear, revved at 4k, and won't up-shift by itself. Like I was driving my old Chevy Sprint.

Interesting. So it has a safety mode. That's kind of neat as long as it doesn't happen due to minor issues like the fuel cap not being completely sealed.

Talk about nerf! thats actually kind of scary. Imagine getting the CEL on a long road trip and super nanny kicks in? Or in the middle of the highway doing some highly spirited driving? Interesting indeed... Unless ofcourse it was just your car in particular that has this "super nanny"

If it's just my car, she has no reason to be jealous yet. I haven't even so much as looked at another car since getting her.

if you do not have an OBD2 scan tool to clear the code. Disconnect the negative battery cable from the terminal for a few minutes. If you do not have time to wait, disconnect the positive (do not mix this up) battery cable and touch it to the negative (GND) battery terminal and re attach it. Nothing like that will likely be a hard code which requires a scan tool to reset.

+1 please answer - I use to be able to do it by Disconnecting the battery and then pumping the break pedal.

No clue what it had but simply scan it and see a generic obd2 scanner will do
