I've got the new fuel pump, put a few hundred miles on it so far, no crickets have returned. I'm only running Shell 93 Octane in it.

I do not know of any local gas stations with 0$ ethanol.

I'll post if the crickets return.

I really do think this pump is the fix, unfortunately for you, your fix sounds like it came broke lol
I'm going to ask them about it Monday. I'd like to just get another pump while they sit and "research" it. Maybe I just got a bad apple.

Got the call that my pump came in. I'll get it done next week and post an update after a few hundred miles.

FOR PEOPLE THAT DONT KNOW, IT IS THE FUEL PUMP AND IF ITS HAPPENING TO YOUR CAR CALL THE DEALER THEY ARE INFORMED OF THIS. IT IS NOT A RECALL BECAUSE IT APPLIES TO MANY FRS'S NO JUST A RANGE OF THEM. ONLY THING IS THAT IN THE STATES THESE PUMPS ARE ON BACK ORDER. IVE BEEN WAITING TWO WEEKS FOR MINE AND STILL NO ETA. I CHEACK IT EVERY DAY. AND FOR THOSE OF YOU IN THE BAY AREA THE SF WAREHOUSE HAS 15 ON BACK ORDER. OTHER WISE IN TOTAL THERE ARE ALMOST 400 IN TRANSATE AND ALMOST 200 ON BACK ORDER.

maybe just a few bad pumps of the new batch going around?

my understanding was that this new oct 17 tsb was a completely re-designed part, but ill be waging a shitwar on my stealership if my chirping comes back, to many tsbs and complaints for this to be going on this long.
A little under 1000 miles on the new pump when crickets returned. They are intermittent for me, and no where near as loud when they come back. They were ridiculously loud with the old pump. But there is no rhyme or reason now. The car can be hot or cold, temperature outside hot or cold, long drive, short drive, day, night all on the same tank of gas. I cannot get alcohol free gas in my town, don't know if that is it. Name brand gas, no name gas- none of it matters.

Has anyone determined if climate change is affecting the "chirping" ?? With the change into winter for many in the U.S.

Mine was unaffected by any temperature/humidity/elevation changes. Only thing that makes it quiet is the 2T oil.

When you say quiet, do you mean just reduces the chirping sound or eliminated it? Thanks for the info man. Guess I will have to scroll through the thread and find more info about this 2T oil I remember a few discussing it a while back.

I can only hear it at low volumes sometimes if I open the hood and get close to it when the fuel tank is getting closer to empty.

Went in to dealership to have them "look at" my crickets hoping that they would replace w/e needs replaced (fuel pump? injector seasl? I haven't been keeping up on the latest ideas), but even after the "master tech" looked at it, they said it was normal and that there was nothing that they could do. :/

Chirp noise

Just hit 300 miles three days ago and I heard a slight chirping noise also. This is after driving home from Queens NY back to Long Island, after parking my car on the driveway I heard that chirping noise during idle.

I share this sentiment but being a **** to the service representative at the dealership is counter productive.

Of course they are acting like a bunch of monkeys when they lie to your face and try to weasel out of performing warranty work.

The advice to print the TSB bulletin is spot on. Bring a copy of the TSB into the dealer and politely ask to have the the crickets looked at again. If they try to pull some BS like claiming that there is no abnormal noise you ask to show them yourself. Ask The service representative to go on a test drive with you. After he hears the god-awful chirping under your hood he really can't squirm his way out of replacing the fuel pump.

While unlikely you might have to ask to speak with the service manager. Again, carrying on with a polite demeanor will give you faster results.

I let a BMW dealership crap all over me back when I was a wee lad. So I learned the hard way.

Pretty much don't take no for an answer but be nice about it. Having documentation, proof, evidence, video clips or TSB's makes getting warranty work approved a lay up.
