New rule?

Mods, can you make it against the forum rules to suggest a product's quality based on it's country of origin. I'm really getting tired of seeing people blatantly being racist without repercussion.

Some countries have done fantastic jobs of earning terrible manufacturing reputations.

Particularly China's private label industry.

I would support this rule only if all companies were required to truthfully admit their sourcing of their products and how much qualified design and engineering went into it.

Almost all of car parts companies dealing with cheap overseas manufacturing are not the same as Apple or Samsung with their own factories and QA staff. Their argument of 'Apple is good and made in China, so our car parts made in China are good too' is terribly flawed.

There are two major tiers of products, those firmly controlled by a mostly vertical integration, international company, and those that are required to meet government production targets and end up in commodity hell, competing solely on low price.

I think we would be shocked to find out how many 'our engineering team' statements really mean 'drop shipped or repackaged from a QA and IP indifferent Chinese company that I found on Alibaba.com'.

I'm talking more about the average user here saying things like, "Am I the only one that think this kit looks super Chinese made?"?

I'm probably being overly sensitive, but things like that don't belong in the general sections of the board. If someone wants to make a light hearted joke, that's fine, but the above statement isn't a joke.

Sorry but I don't agree that using country of origin as a factor in assessing the quality of a part has anything to do with racism. Parts from China in particular have a well earned reputation for being poor quality knockoffs of parts from more reputable companies.

I don't think that anyone on here is suggesting that if a part made in a country like the United States would be of inferior quality if the person putting it together was of Chinese ancestry. That would be racism!

Yes, probably.

If someone starts talking about how the Chinese cannot make quality goods because of some inherent inability, then that is clearly BS and racist. But come on, you know the norm is cheap, cheap, cheap and that's what people are commenting on.

I work in engineering and manufacturing, and I can tell you I've seen TERRIBLE quality and workmanship from US, German, and Japanese companies. I've also seen fantastic work done in China and India.

Its important that people realise the difference between laughing with someone, and laughing at someone.

For the record, when I say something like "Mexicans are lazy" I'm 100% laughing at you

I notice you're from New Zealand and I'm curious... Would you be saying that while having sex with a sheep, or after?

Listen man. If anymore of these Canadian bolts come slathered in maple syrup as anti-seize, there's gonna be real repercussions and not just some racist jokes.
