TRD door stabilizer and door sag....

I've never had a car with frameless doors. Is "door sag" a real issue? I could not care less about the supposed handling bennies of the TRD door kit, but if it does indeed provide support and longevity to the doors and hinges it's an easy decision.

OTOH, wouldn't making one end of the door stiffer than originally designed put an extra load on the hinges as the car flexes?

They sag like a bitch. The hinges wear out-- Then the catches misalign and it's an arse bastard to close the doors... Anything that will help stop them twisting against the hinges? I'm all over that.

Now... sorry for a slight thread jack, but the BRZ already has those stabilizers correct? If the BRZ has them, I would invest in some stabilizers if I were you.

The window frame does nothing to support the door at all, so it having frameless windows means nothing.

LOTS of cars (911's, most subarus, even 1st gen neons) have frameless windows and none of them have issues with hinges.

I would imagine that the doors aren't twisting at all, but the car around them does with age and these stabilizers aren't going to help that at all.

My Impreza wagon had 212k when I sold it... doors still aligned perfectly. I wouldn't worry about it.

The windowframe is a simple steel extension of the doorframe and has a rubber seal. So, yes, it does support the door-- vertically. It stops it moving upwards. By comparison, a plain window up against a rubber seal can move against whatever's controlling the regulator, and the rubber has to allow more pliance. Steel is more resistant to pressure than glass.

So basically what you're saying-- the car twisting against the doors (which is what happens) happens more with pillarless cars. Also, who told you 911s don't have issues with door sag? I know of about five that have had that corrected at a friend's workshop. Out of seven that've been in for bodywork that's a pretty big ratio.

EDIT; One thing, however, is that when you open and close BRZ/86 doors they reseat and unseat against the seal. That's nice, and should help. But, still. Point stands.

Don't think so off the top of my head. The stabilisers are a friction pad that holds the clip/latch base and tighter fitting clip/latch. A sliding plate enables the pressure without forcing the issue.

Just get a few pieces of cardboard and glue it on the door jam. It does the same thing.

Hold up a second... are you suggesting that a window frame on the door that simply rests against a rubber seal on the body will stop a door from moving vertically???

Go have a close look at exactly just how a framed window door interfaces with the body of a car, there is literally no support added vertically. The only thing supported by a frame is the window.

A door is supported vertically by the hinges at the front and the pin at the rear, the body of the car doesn't hold up the door by the frame.

So "door sag" in a frameless door is BS or not?

Door sag has nothing to do with the door having a window frame or not.
