30 seconds. It took 30 seconds for whatever was making a racket to get the lubricant for which it was screaming.

I suspect any brand of top-end cleaner / conditioner will work.

There is still a sound of the DI pump but it's back to how it was when I first picked up the car. A sound similar to a diesel engine.
which one did you use? post a picture?

Ya really, he can't just come in here with a possible fix and leave the most important part out...the name of the product!

Cobra: exactly what did you use?

I will track down the brand name guys. It was something like Resitol or something like that. Damn it, I knew I should have written it down. Give me a few...

If it could be considered harmless then I'll try using some at 500:1 to see test whether or not this lubrication of a washer explanation is accurate.

Just google it but it has to be the ultimate fuel additive for lubrication.
Plenty of people have been doing it for years, in diesels and gasoline engines for its benefits.
Why would you use some upper cylinder additive instead?
I use Valvoline Racing 2 stroke oil.

Try it when the tank's low, wash it in with some fuel. That way you can fill up and dilute it if you are still in a quandry.

Thank you for actually doing something to prove the point!
Simple problem, simple temporary fix until they use a teflon coated washer or something in the pump.

Whew. I thought I was going to have a bonehead moment!

Rislone Injector Cleaner

To be clear, I mixed 50ml of 2T oil (Lucas brand) in with the Rislone in the bottle. After reading the rest of the posts here, it seems that the 2T oil is probably what fixed the issue. I didn't feel like just pouring oil into the gas tank without first mixing it with something.

If it comes back (and it probably will), I will try each individually.

I am going to order some Lucas Oil Upper Cylinder Lubricant/Cleaner, as well. Guess it's worth seeing what works best with the least amount of effort.

Apparently crickets don't like ethanol

This could all be in my head, but I don't think so...

I have been using Ultra 94, which according to Petro Canada/Sunoco, can contain up to 10% ethanol. Yesterday coming back through town after a 100 mile drive, the cricket noise was quite loud. I could hear it while driving slowly through downtown (echoing off the buildings and parked cars...It's embarrassing). I managed to run the tank down to just less than 1/4.
This morning on my way to work, I topped up with Shell V-Power 91 (no ethanol). When I got to work (a few miles through town), the crickets didn't seem as angry. I thought it must just be my imagination. After work, I drove around town for a while, looking for some German Castrol (found it at wally world). I got the car good and warm and can honestly say the cricket noise is almost gone. The clatter of DI is still there, but the "squeak" is MUCH improved.
This could be wishful thinking on my part, but I think I may be on to something. For those with the cricket noise, are you using gas blended with ethanol? If so, try finding some premium that specifically says "no ethanol" on the pump. It may prove to be worth a try.

As a sidenote, I spoke to a diesel mechanic today who has been at it for a long time. He suggested trying some LUCAS upper cylinder lubricant, adding that it is good pump lube, and he has seen it make a difference in pump/injector noise where people use low sulphur diesels when it is not required. I picked up a 5oz bottle today and will keep it in the car to try if the noise comes back. I will post up if anything changes, or if I fill with the 94 again and put the additive in as well.

Yours must be fairly quiet. I can hear mine sitting in traffic on the freeway, windows up, AC on, with the radio on.

Mine was this annoying prior to the additives. I'd have to blare the radio to get it out of my head. I don't like driving with my radio on.

I know people keep pointing out that Toyobaru have acknowledged the sound and stated that it poses no threat to the mechanical well being of the vehicle. You guys can stop doing so.

Those of us that are concerned about this, at least myself, are no longer worried our engines are going to explode and simply want the horrible chirping coming from the engine bay of our BRAND NEW CARS to stop because many are OCD about sounds in their cars, others think it's embarrassing to pull up to a light in a car that many people notice and like to look at only to have their faces change to a befuddled look when they realize the car is making cricket sounds, and many more of us are worried about both.

I think I'm going to go downstairs and mix a little 2 stroke oil with some gas and pour it into my tank.

If a washer is not lubricated properly, that wouldn't cause a problem down the line (what's the time frame? 1 year?)? I'm a little skeptical of that train of thought and the idea of adding additives to gasoline seems downright annoying, an additional expense, and shouldn't even be needed in the first place.
