the bottom half of the Moto-san article sounds like its happening.
One last time and I will leave it alone. "Sounds like" is not the same as "will be". Informed and ultimately proven to be accurate speculation is still speculation until the real facts come out.

Curious where they got VINs?

They could have got them off the cars' windshields. Those pics probably didn't make the rounds on the internet, but I'm sure they exist.

They camo the whole thing and then meet US VIN location requirements? Suppose it isn't impossible but seems odd. I was just curious anyway.

Plates, VINs, emission equipment, stickers, warnings, etc still all need to be there. The VIN is on the windshield as you know.

They are prototypes. They need none of those. They obviously had them though.

They don't need to comply with DOT, vehicle codes, state laws? They don't have to crash test and emission test these vehicles before they hit the highways? That is surprising.

I think if the US VINs exist for the 4 cylinder, and if they were required to emission test it and crash test it to operate it on public roads then it seems highly likely there will be a 4 cylinder variant. And that is reasonable too considering they have had a less powerful model in the past. The 300zx to 350z saw the loss of two models of varying power levels, so it is also reasonable they could go with one engine platform, but I still think the VIN evidence is highly suggestive of the former.

I'm not sure if this makes a differences, but these are pre-production prototypes. Toyota also did the same with the MK4/A80. There were about 60 to 80 made??? I was told most of them were used for testing, media test drive, and auto shows debut. The majority of them were destroyed afterwards, but a hand full of them did survive. I recall a Supraforum member from Canada having one a few years back.

They get destroyed because they would have a hard time selling a car that was abused so bad. How do you even warranty something like that? I’ve seen VINs with a history that says the car was a press car, just like sometimes it will say dealer/fleet car, but these were still chassis numbered as part of the main production, so not preproduction. Regardless, these preproduction cars are still required to be legal like any other car.

If it's on a civilian street it would be a requirement IMO.

Would most likely be scrapped or become racecar in the end.

take this how you will, but SupraMKV member @Bonanzka has confirmed that 4 cylinder will be available in Europe. he is part of the 900 Supra Club. they have to put a $1000 refundable deposit for a reservation. in turn they get exclusive info from Toyota Europe.

Tcoat won't be happy until there is an official statement on Toyota's website.
