Why Final Fantasy XIV isn't coming to Xbox 360 or Xbox One

I really wish MS would allow cross platform play on the Xbox. I know Bungie is pressing for it for Destiny. Here's hoping they make another change of plans.

Why anyone would want to play an MMORPG on a console to begin with baffles me. Then again, look at the popularity of Skyrim and Oblivion....

I played FFXI on the PS2 and had no issues. I'm in the FFXIV beta, and gamepad controls are extremely well done and intuitive.

Different strokes I guess. A friend in college swore up and down about how much he loved FFXI on pc and always scoffed the console versions. I see this a lot with most mmorpgers. I never got into any of them tho.

I only played for a couple years, but nobody loves FFXI. That's just the Stockholm Syndrome talking.

After revised policies, Xbox One. The price is still steep though, but I'll have $250 in GameStop credit so it won't be too horrible.

The price isn't great but it's not terrible either. It's exactly the same as the low end model of PS3 when it launched and $100 cheaper than the "good" one (and that's in 2006 dollars, not inflated 2013 dollars), which came with absolutely nothing, no HD cables, no headset, and a woefully short controller charge cable. Skip ahead to today and inside the box for xbox one, in addition to the console you're getting a 3D 1080p smart camera with person-sensetive voice recognition and noise cancelation, in addition to the software and support to actually take advantage of the features and amenities instead of shelve them on the back burner while halfheartedly kind of supporting it while at the same time saying how silly and gimmicky it is.

Would I like to see the X1 at $399? Of course. Would I want to see it at the cost of further functionality and features? Hell no. When realistically, we're looking at $600-800 out the door anyway (tax, controller, games, ps+/xbl gold), the price difference is minimal, IMO.

I like how Sony doesn't have to innovate, show off lots of new games, or bring anything new to the table in order to "win." Same old same old for the next 6 years.

Sometimes people want the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality. I know a handful of people that have said they want the Xbox One because they want an all-encompassing entertainment device, which is really what MS is pushing. And I know a lot of people, myself included, that want the PS4 because the only thing we care about are games. But they did show off some new games. And supposedly they're going to have even more detailed in August at some point. I don't remember specific numbers so I won't quote anything to be wrong, but Sony will have a few more exclusives than Microsoft. Either way, both camps should be happy because both will have something great.

And hey, if you like the exclusives on the Xbox One better then that's great. But just because you don't like something doesn't mean it automatically sucks.

Right. It ain't over til the fat lady sings, and she's got a ~ten-year piece coming up. That's a little crazy, because it sure doesn't feel like the 360 and PS3 have been around for almost nine.
