Do you adjust damping and pressures to compensate for the increased grip levels?
Another question in relation to this, how many turns are you guys running on your Koni's , specifically with TRD springs and sways? I just need a rough baseline...

Thanks! That's what I'd guessed, just wanted to check in.

I hear so many answers from many different people. I talked to a guy last Saturday whose been tuning suspensions for autocross for 25 years and said that for our cars (in stock form), with the single adjustable konis, to set the front to full firm and the rear from 1/2 to one full click from soft.

I took his advice and I liked the way the car drove a lot better than when I had everything set to full soft. The rear I'm not so sure about yet.

Remember that the TRD spring rates are the same as OEM. I thought that they were stiffer, but they're not apparently (correct me if I'm wrong)

That's exactly where I start. Depending on site/weather conditions, I might adjust a 1/2 turn from there on the applicable end. However, I do not have the TRD stuff and only a smallish front bar.

Thanks for the info, appreciate the starting point! Although I thought I've heard that you're not supposed to run Koni's on full hard/stiff?

BTW, I'm having a hard time finding the spring rates for the TRD springs, but they might be different than stock. This thread shows a rate, but it is the rate for the springs on the TRD coilovers, and there is no confirmation that those springs are the same as the USDM TRD springs. See page 8, starting at post 160.

In stock form, as in TRD or Stock springs? No one knows what the TRD's are but guesses are that they're the Eibach Pro springs, given that the bump stops say Eiebach on them. In completely stock form ie non trd springs/bars, our cars are very tail happy, so softening up the rear and firming up the front will remove some of that. I've been really happy with my setup, I just have to grow a pair and take some risks at coning or spinning the car. I think my fear of a +1 or more when it counts slows me down. I'm slowly getting over that though, and seeing better results.

For everyone trying to understand adjusting your Konis (or any adjustable shocks) there's an episode of the Grassroots Motorsports podcast that's an interview with Lee Grimes. In it Lee does a great job of explaining the overall idea of tuning shocks to adjust for different surfaces and driving characteristics. I listened to it yesterday and it really helped me comprehend what is going on when you're messing around with shock tuning. Definitely worth giving a listen.

^That's the one!

I've become obsessed with automotive podcasts lately. Between GRM and Slipangle my commute to and from work has gotten much more interesting.

This is no longer correct. I have a set sitting in my living room stamped "200 treadwear".

Question about the Rival S...
They are asymmetrical, but there are no lefts and rights?
So the tread pattern will be opposite on one side of the car than the other?

I run the koni's at 1 turn from full stiff front and 1 turn from full soft rear with TRD springs.
