Remote Lock/Unlock Issues

I'm having persistent remote lock/unlock issues with my 2015 FRS. I've tried searching the forums and I wasn't able to find anything that quite matched my issues. There are two threads I found, one is for keyless start only, and the other had no resolution.

About 99% of the time I try and unlock the car with my key fob, I get no response. And about 70% of the time I go to lock the car after I've gotten out and am leaving, I get no response. In most cases, I need to repeatedly press lock/unlock buttons (from 5-30 times) until I get a response from the car.

**The strangest part, and what makes me think it's the car's receiving end that is the issue, is that if I come to my car and unlock it with the key (WITHOUT attempting to unlock with the key remote), and I press the truck open button (the dash button, not the remote button), the button doesn't work (nothing happens).

TLDR / Notes:
- Car wont lock/unlock with remote
- 5-30 repeated lock/unlock presses eventually gets response from car and locks/unlocks the car.
- New batteries doesn't help or improve the situation
- Both key fobs do the same thing
- Issue is worse in cold weather
- Car does not have push start

Try holding it, it's not designed to be a push but a short hold so you can't accidentally open it. The same is true of the remote.

How good is the car battery?

I do know about the requirement to hold the truck release button. Still it's unresponsive as described.

As for the battery, I'm not sure how good my battery is. Is it be possible for a 2015 battery to be getting bad by now? I'll look into that. Thank you.

If your car starts up strong, the battery is most likely OK.

When you push the remote button, are you pointing the remote towards the car?

Yeah, tried everything; pointing at the car, pointing away, pointing up, holding button, quick bursts... No response until after a bunch of tries it just starts working, and it's then good until I arrive at my destination. Then it often gives me trouble locking up again.

The OP mentioned he has new remote batteries. However, it might be good to clean the contacts with a bit of alcohol -

I have this same issue as you. I believe it is also something with the receiving end on the car. The fob battery contacts are clean but I've been through 3 batteries with this problem still persisting.

Well, glad I'm not the only one.

I plan on scheduling an appointment with the dealership soon to get this look at. I will post my results here when I get to the bottom of this.

The main reason I wanted to start this thread is to help others who may have the same problem.

Please keep us posted on what the solution was. I've had this issue on my driver's side, but from what I dug up on the forums, it might be built up gunk physically blocking the lock from moving rather than any communication issue between the car and remote. Not sure if that's what you're experiencing.

Did you ever get a resolution to this? I just picked up a 2015 FRS and it has the exact same issues.

Well dudes, for me... I just needed to replace the battery in my key fob. It's still strange to me that the buttons inside the door didn't work because of the fob battery.

Just saw this thread. Strange! I thought the key start only has an RFID transponder.
