From what I've read, your MOSTLY at risk if you occasionally redline your car. I've never and don't plan too anytime soon, so I guess I'm ok...

Copied from the thread...

Can't remember where I read it, but it seems to me that this issue was addressed in an updated tune which some of us are currently running, but does nothing for you guys that are running stock ROM I suppose

@SkAsphalt if you could chime in if you also remember reading anything on this ?

I've never redlined my car and I don't ever plan to. I've come close mind you but i've never hit the fuel cutoff. I rarely drive my car hard like that and when I do its for a short period of time. Hopefully we have no issues down the road when our warranty is expired.

For now, I'll keep driving my car and enjoy it hoping for the best!

The cause of the issue really hasn't been confirmed yet and personally I'm not losing sleep over it and I don't think any of you should either.

A quick summary of the discussion is around detonation happening from rapid throttle tip in at engine speeds over 5200rpm. The stock tables don't have any ignition timing retard which may permit detonation during fast shifts or rapid throttle changes at high rpm, such as what you may see during autox. This detonation may be damaging the direct injector seals over time. Reving the engine to the redline or beyond to the fuel cut really isn't a big deal in my opinion.

As owners of these vehicles I think the best thing we can do is to use 94 octane (as is recommended anyways) to keep detonation to a minimum, and to keep our ears tuned to any popping events that are described in the above linked thread. Worst case scenario in the short term is you take it in and get it fixed under warrantee. I'm sure if failures start ramping up some sort of TSB will be issued. By the way, does anybody here know if any of the dealers in Sask. are aware of this issue?

Talked to someone at subaru today,

apparently she has never heard of the idling issues, or the chirping and the fuel injector issues...

I told her many ppl are experiencing idling and chirping issues, but she told me there is no talk of a recall and she has never heard of such things.

So im not too sure how well the tech's at Saskatoon Subaru are informed, but there is definitely some issues that they are ignoring/unaware of.

She then said they can take a look at it and repair "it", probably not under warrantee.
Bla what the Hell!

You are correct, there is a TSB out at dealers to update ECU programming for cars running stock tunes to solve the injector issue. Those of us with tunes have had this fix for a month+ now

By the way, this claim "
***This problem WILL manifest eventually in ANY car that even occasionally sees redline***" is false

The quote was copied from the link Curtis left...

The guy that left the quote seemed to know his stuff, but I have no idea how accurate he is
