I owned an NC PRHT and I dealt with this on a daily basis. When you are behind the wheel of one, you couldn't care less what people think.

I did a study on this once (psych major), the whole "girl car" idea was a response US and EUs representation of what the average male and female @ 25/single/and not a homeowner...would most likely buy in the 1980-1990.

The male group overall had favored big cars, big engines with a particular taste in Ford, Chevy, Mercedes, BMW. While the women showed no favor at all to a particular type of car or make.

It was hypothesized that this in turn changes the perspective of men into a stereotype, cars for men vs cars for women. You can see this in effect when males would ridicule their peers when they started to purchase small cars, small engine. Popular claims "Why don't you drive a real car" **aka mans car** or "This is a car for girls" **aka attacking unpopular masculine decisions**

In reality, the car found to be most purchased by women of all ages and social economic status by 2000 were Vans, SUV, Sedans. Quite the opposite of the general consensus of males who think miata's or even the integra are girl cars, which are not bought and driven by only women's population.

So if you believe that the FRS/BRZ is a girls car, its not, your just playing to an old stereotype contrived by males who hold on to the masculine image of male decisions of car ownership. "Your not a man unless you own a big car, with a big engine"

I agree. Rational or not, the Miata has always seemed feminine to me. I'm not a huge fan of the looks.

I think "feminine" is just a degrading term used by guys who are insecure about their own masculinity (like that should need defending in the first place) in this case, but I think it's a horrendously ugly car at any rate and that's why I wouldn't get one. My own car is considered a girl car by some as well, but I always feel good when I walk up to it whereas when I walk by a Miata I try to understand the design and appreciate it, but I can't.

If you don’t have a small penis and are not self conscious...than no.

Most miata owners here, I'd say 99% are old retired people...or a lady driving. Never a young "car enthusiast". Victim of it's own stereotype - though I really know how fun they are to drive. The new barsoap ones are just ugly IMO though.

I think the car is feminine. At the same time, I don't care. If I see a guy driving a Miata, I may assume he is either gay, or a real car enthusiast. Either way, who cares.

I think the NC's look significantly less "feminine" than the NAs and NBs:

Either way though, who cares? Drive what you like, don't let others' perceptions dictate what you do.

To some extent, I have heard almost all small sports cars called feminine and certainly all convertibles. But why should girls have ALL the fun? Be secure in your masculinity and drive whatever you want.

this is the most confusing stereotype to me. i dont get it at all. the thing brought back sports cars in the purest sense of the term.

Nah, its just a good car.

Though the interesting part is that the car community is starting to view the BRZ/FRS as girl cars. I can see this happening.
