Our car is a low-budget platform and there are a lot of low quality stuff. Many people cannot justify to buy a 1k-2k aftermarket part, when the whole car has a cost in the range of 22k-25k.

Mods to avoid is up to the owner. Not all mods gonna fit everyone's need. Some parts works for one person's setup, but might not & fuck it up for other person's setup.

So basically the debate is whether the oem pulley is balanced or not? I'd say that my Perrin crank pulley is one of my favorite mods. I can rev match much easier, and I can put the car in 6th at 40mph without lugging the engine. It would lug at those speeds with the stock pulley.

Still something tells me it's bad...but I'd like to see some evidence obviously.

Here's a pretty accessible article. It pushes a specific product but the effects are real.

If one doesn't wish to bother with the science, consider the cost. A simple pulley is much cheaper to manufacture than a harmonic damper. Why do OEMs use them?
