I'm trying to find the truth that aftermarket parts affect the value. I had no issues selling my '02 Camaro SS 35th anniversary edition and I had headers, full exhaust, CAI, and tuned. Did not drop the value one bit. It may be different for other cars though and that is where I am not sure.

If anything, aftermarket parts may tell a buyer that you drove it like a racecar, so that could be a potential negative, but then again, its a sports car, not an Accord.

I sell most of it to recover some of the cash spent on aftermarket parts. I plan on keeping my car for 7+ years so there's really no need for my stock parts once I've upgraded to something better.

Keep the parts that you may need in the future as spares and so your car won't be in "down time":

- Shocks, struts & springs: Good to have for when/if you send in your coilovers in for rebuilding in the future.

- Exhaust manifold/headers and fp: Needed for smog time (in some states - CA)

- Wheels: Good for emergency or race spares. Otherwise, sell.

...those aforesaid parts are pretty much the only ones that concern me. Everything else you can just sell I think.

Selling a car with after market parts is worth more or same as a fully stock car. That's a blatant lie. Ask any dealer or smart individual and they would tell you the same. Aftermarket takes away value, not add it.

I've traded in a few (debadged) cars with intakes, exhaust, aftermarket wheels etc and no dealer's ever even noticed. And mods enhance the value on most private sales because (despite what our wives & SOs think...) there are others like us out there. If you keep this one for more than a few years, the exhaust will probably rot out anyway, no matter where you live (it's the water vapor in the exhaust gas mixture that rusts them - they go from the inside out). So no one expects the original exhaust on a 4+ year old car unless it was SS.

I personally am selling everything possible, and here's why:

I live in an apartment with very limited storage, so I sold the wheels as soon as I got my new ones on the car. Now I'm replacing my exhaust and I'm debating going to a local shop and trying to sell it under the impression they could use the cats/muffler.

It beats hauling it all around and storing it for the next 10 years just to save a few bucks if I do ever sell it. In 10 years, if I don't like the car anymore, I'll just strip it out and do something crazy with it vs. selling it for sub $5k.

Saving most of it so I can either revert to stock if needed or adjust my exhaust note as necessary.
