Home made cold air intake uppgrade, for oem box.
When I installed my perrin oil cooler.
I came up with the idea to mod the snorkel to the airbox, as everyone else has done, who did not want to buy a ready-made from HKS. But I took it a step further and this is how it kame out The arrow on the tape pointing towards the end of the impact member, is where the air hits to be brought up to the snorkel through the air ducts on the beam and in the styrofoam. so let's make it better Then cut and glued bits I got over from polystyrene, to obtain a smoother passage. Then I started the manufacture of aluminum plate that was bent into different sections to control the air and get some more air up to the filter. Then did a version 2.0 of the plate, which was not as badly damaged and finer bent and even a bit longer, modded although the snorkel to fit into the new cold air scoops. One can see that the bottom of the guide plates fall a little further down than the original air passages in the crash beam. |

I think if you tilt the bottom forward to certain degree it'll create a "scoop" to direct the air upward even more.

LOL, I think the best you'll get is the ever reliable "butt dyno"...and of course it'll show a big improvement.

Ha ha, unfortunately, will probably never happen, after that I'm just a regular person and not some company that makes stuff
so to get some how of proof that they work, I cut very thin fringe of paper and taped over the original channels and drove with a fan in the front, to see how much they rose up, and did the same with new channels and the plates and they were actually more flow (hillbilly science) |

You know that , at speed, the entire area in front of the radiator is a high pressure area, right? It doesn't really matter if the opening faces the front or the side, the pressure is the same. Years ago I tested a ram air setup with the scoop
directly in the airflow(under the front bumper). At 100 MPH I showed a positive pressure of 4 inches/H2O(about 1/7th of a pound) If you look up Grimmspeed's testing of the stock intake tract you'll see the stock snorkel actually aids in flow. Additionally, many people have observed that at any speed other than standing still the intake air temp & ambient air temp is usuall within 2-3 degrees of one another with the stock intake system in place. Nice fabrication though. 👍
