I think the Nissan is hideous, and I like the original 510.

To me the IDx looks a bit like the Amphicar (maybe they should make it able to drive on a lake?)

The FT86 concept doesn't look nearly as nice as our real cars though in my opinion.

I've owned a Nissan Xterra since it was new in 1999 and I still love it. I would not however buy the new ones as they took away some of the ruggedness and usability of the first 2 generations.

I know they are working on it. The problem is the Final Product cost, and the market price.

How would they pull it off within going into

A/ C7 performance and price

B/ GT-R Price

Like I said sub 3500 lbs with 475/475 HP/Torque, and 29 MPG Highway, 50/50 Balance...cost 60k. That is C7 price

120k and up will be GTR price. With Obama Economy, not many people have money laying around to pick up a car that cost 100k just as a Hobby.

If they make it though, I am sure I won't be able to bite it. I will be glad for those who can.

But as what I see, I would say the 86 will truthfully be Mid-Tier once it goes 2.5l or FI

I think it is hilarious how the images alternate between the two and all I could think was - ugly car, good looking car, ugly car, good looking car, ugly car, good looking car,......(obviously the FT-86 being the good looking car).

Why would they try to make a new 510? That's ridiculous if there is anything to be learned from Toybaru making the twins its that cars have changed, but people's wants in a car haven't. The desired 86 is going to be desired in a new version.

Now what car hasn't nissan remade that was/is extremely desirable?

The fucking s chassis... Come on nissan, want to battle the twins, put out new versions of the S with the same old fun factor

from what i understand the foria concept was a preview of a new S16. but no one liked it and the economy started falling to pieces a few years later. than nissan just scrapped the idea all together.

fast forward a few years later. Mr. Toyoda told his company to make something affordable, sexy, rwd and lightweight. than the 86/frs/brz came to be. the cars got great reviews and has been a hot seller.

nissan got all PO because that used to be their thing "S" and sales of its fugly a$$ 370z has been on decline for sometime now. and now this is their answer to the 86/frs/brz. i say this to nissan, LOL this is the best you can do? you suck go back to the drawing board and hire some real designers.

^The Foria concept looked a bit more production ready than the new IDx FreeFlow concept.

I love the idea, but even the front end with those cartoonish headlamps looks a bit goofy.
I agreed with you as well.

The last sexy car Nissan designed or produced was the S15

Not saying the Z or GTR are bad cars, but they absolutely don't measure up in terms of looks. The IDX especially is a complete turd in comparison. I don't understand why car manufacturers these days can't make sleek, sexy, classically beautiful cars. Everything is just bulbous, chunky, and akward.

I really like the 510 concept, while the 86 concept doesnt look quite right. Something about it just bothers me.

And the thing is in the discussions and promo blurbs of this concept, part of the core concept seems to be a car for the non-enthusiast! They come out and say its a car for those not interested in cars. An inexpensive good looking car. CVT too.
As opposed to our FR-S/BRZ/GT86 where the core objective was an affordable drivers car and lots of resources were spent on the driving dynamics. Not denim interior with brass zippers. Looks like the idx concept is aimed at the skinny jeans market.
And if that's the case then this will be FF. An abomination to the 510. It's be a styling exercise that makes me angry like the new Beetle.

CVT for sure?

Nissan is doing that a lot lately.

What is actually "wrong" with a CVT? Is it the future, or just Nissan's weird little thing? Are they vulnerable in some way?
