Lots of boosted people change to a taller gear ratio. I would imagine because 1st and 2nd get kind of unmanageable with enough power at the factory ratio. So I guess tires would be another way to go about it.

I actually plan on getting 16" wheels in the future and going smaller than stock on the outer tire diameter, so it's pretty funny that all this time I've been running bigger tires.

Yeah, but he can regear around that extra height. If he planned 4.56 he can go to 4.88 and beat the extra tire size.

Here is a great place to experiment with gear ratios and tire sizes: http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html

Save your money then. The smaller tires will get you your regear without having to pay for the ring, pinion, and labor. See the above link and plan accordingly.

Well I wanted to go pretty aggressive. Like 4.88ish. I don't know if I'd have to run Honda Ruckus wheels to get the same results. I'll check that link on my computer later. Still at work for 12 minutes.

You can always go 5.13 to keep the larger tires. I come from the Jeep world and gears solve everything so I know the desire for low gearing... especially with a car that is only driven for performance.

Nah, I'd rather have smaller wheels and tires. Less weight, less flex, and cheaper to replace.

I thought I saw some Aussies running 15" rims... I'll see if I can find it. Because that would get you super small and light rims and tires and the reduced final drive.

Yeah the TWS 16s are hot. I just wish we could get better tire selection in 16s. You have the entire world at 17 in 225/45 but drop down to 16 and it's so limited.

It is funny because this is the same issue with Jeeps. Hundreds of thousands of Jeeps had 15" wheels which offered insane amounts of tire options until the Rubicon edition came along in 2003 which gave us Lockers F/R and 4:1 low range from the factory which was amazing, but also gave us 16" wheels which means the very nice factory wheels have to be swapped because the only half decent size 16" tires are for large pickup trucks and this means the tires are too stiff. One factory mounted tire had a load capacity of the Jeeps Gross loaded weight. In contrast, all other factory tires (load range C) and many popular 15" sizes offered load range ratings that were exactly right for the 3400lb Jeep and were also $50/tire cheaper. 16"s are just the bastard size of tires.
