trusted emergency mechanic in pittsburgh

i really fucked up so here we go.

i was changing my oil like ive always done, take the cap off, take the plug out, take the filter off, oil a new filter ring, and was putting it on, first turn of my wrench my filter remover doodad broke and a piece smaller than my pinky went right in there. i saw it stuck to the side wall so i went to get some needle noise plyers. went to pull it out, tink tink tink all the way down. im going to assume im totally 100% fucked and need to tow it into the shop and have them tear it all apart for a tiny piece of chinesium. im not wrong thinking that putting oil in and hoping to flush it is batshit nuts?
here is my shitty diagram

Maybe it'd harmlessly work it's way to the oil pan and sit there. Or maybe it'd get pulled into the timing chain and sprocket, cause timing to jump, and you smash all the valves on that side of the motor. How good are you at gambling?

That really sucks! I wouldn't drive it like that though.

Personally, before I took it to a shop, I'd maybe try to get eyeballs on it with an inspection scope and use some heavy duty magnets on the outside of the timing cover to try to walk it up to a place where you might be able to grab it with a telescoping magnetic retriever tool. $100 worth of Harbor Freight stuff and some time (and patience) might be worth the shot. Oh, and some beer for your buddy because this is probably going to be a 2 man job.

You have not stated yet whether what was dropped is ferrous metal or not ? If it is, a small magnet properly placed may be your best friend...

What about just removing this (black plastic) sensor bottom left of front cover...see what access it gives you....before removing tin cover from lower camshaft.

update: i called a shop that was recommended to me and they said they couldnt get it done in a reasonable time. they said if i had the old oil and it wasnt contaminated try and flush it out. i saw a rather large "glug" anomaly in the stream about 1/3 the way into draining it but couldnt find the piece in the stream. i then saw a lump when pouring it out in jug but the funnel didnt catch it. put new oil in started it, no crunch and idled just fine. im played a rather pricey dangerous game.

in the off chance i stop posting here, i didnt get it all and really really fucked my car and it was an honor posting here o7

Why not run the oil through a piece of window screen to make sure?
