Wouldn't want to mess with that formula that has kept their total USA sales to less than 1/3 of that the Toyota Corolla alone enjoys...

- Why couldn't Subaru develop/engineer their own version if they are so concerned about they brand image?

- I think it will do better for them than they think.

Translation "we can't make a good looking design and Toyota will outsell us 5-1, so we are going to bitch and moan"

if subaru keeps it RWD it will broaden their line up and most likely spike sales.

option of 4wd 3200lb 250whp

or RWD 2800lb 220whp? assuming an STI version with "250hp"

atleast loyal scooby owners can have a fun week-end car on the side too

250 for STI ver? No way. They gonna have at least 280hp. All the STI series had 280hp or more. Maybe GT gonna have 250~260hp.

I think Subaru should t/c their version and make it rwd and price it a bit higher than the Toyota version that way their sales won't overlap one another.... hopefully. Like everyone has already said shouldn't Subaru have thought out how to implement AWD before making the prototype/dimensions etc.

I think when Toyota said "we want you guys to help with a RWD car. We'll use a bunch of parts supplied by you and your engine, and we'll do the selling" Subaru was more than obliged to do so.

Subaru makes money off Toyota selling these things too y'know. I'm sure when they were approached, they understood that Toyota could shove these cars out onto the streets better than they could.

IMHO, Subaru needs a re-freshing in their lineup anyways. Just because its Subaru doesn't mean it has to be AWD. People act like there's some world law out there that prohibits the car company from making anything else.

FT86 is a product extension for Toyota, that would require little in terms of Toyota resources. I don't think it was meant for Subaru, otherwise it would be a Subaru and not a Toyota.

Not if it's not boosted, it won't.

If it IS boosted, well... that's a different story.

This. Doesn't matter which one sells more, sales overlap would be irrelevant. They are going to be produced at the same factory, on the same lines, the only important thing is that they sell. Both Subaru and Toyota will rake in cash.

I think Toyota owns at least 20% of Subaru anyways so this isn't really a one model deal and they make money off all Subaru sales.

Question I have is this boxer motor EJ-based? (Swap potential?)

Supposedly. I'm Guessing that whether or not it is, an EJ25T swap will be a walk in the park (Toyota ECU permitting ).
