Oh? The Japanese engineers at SOA seem to blame the ethanol in gas here. "No chirp with Japanese gas" is what they told me. I'll point this out to them next time, they never listen though. Just smile and nod lol.

While I don't think it's purely related to ethanol, it does have something to do with the formulation of U.S. (and Canadian?) gasoline. Do owners in Europe or Japan have this problem? I used to get crickets when I used certain gas stations (mostly Exxon). Using Sunoco in my area guaranteed no crickets, but I stuck with Exxon due to gas discounts I received for grocery shopping at Safeway. I had my fuel pump replaced in February, and so far I've been cricket free.

I'm completely convinced it is the ethanol that's causing the chirps. I had the chirping pretty much since I bought my FR-S last October. A few months ago I found a gas station in my area that sells Ethanol Free Premium. After I started using it, the chirping went away completely. Just to make sure, I filled up with some E10 recently and sure enough the chirps came back. And now I'm back on Ethanol Free and the chirps are gone again. The Japanese engineers were right about that. I can only hope they come out with a real fix because Ehtanol Free Premium is really expensive. Where I live it's at least $0.60 higher per gallon than E10 Premium.

I'm at 22,000 miles and still on my original fuel pump. If everyone would just stop switching fuel pumps and wait then you'll eventually get so used to the crickets that you won't even notice them anymore....like myself.

I don't think its necessary to keep creating threads on this when there's a main thread with a billion pages that has the same speculations, theories, 2 cycle oil and additives, pump TSB's, and the same question answered over and over and over again.

am i the only one who thinks like this:

i have crickets time to time. i have over 25k hard miles on the car. i drive it daily, i auto-x, i track, i do everything. obviously i keep up with all maintenance, warm up the car before going high into the rev range and etc. so by all normal standards besides the noise, the car works as it should and i love it.

however i can have the option of having subaru replace the pump and the rest of the associated parts, however i'm afraid that my perfectly fine working BRZ will be ruined by a tech. there have been plenty people posting how they had the pump changed and then had issues...the noises do not bother me, its one of the quirks as i see it of owning the car, and i'm just skeptical of the dealer doing or touching anything to do with fueling.

The service bulletins specifically state that there are zero reliability impacts.

I'm with you, coming up on 27k and haven't been back to the dealership once. My crickets disappeared around 10k, even if I wanted the pump changed 99% of dealerships would deny me. Keep enjoying it!
