Octane booster

Does anyone routinely run octane booster or does everyone just live with 91? I've been running Torco, but not sure if it's worth it. My engine runs great, no popping, pulls hard, no issues. Anyone experience real world differences between 91 and 93ish?

Torco is your best bet. Call all the dealers around you. I was able to pick up a 5gallon drum for $185 at a gas station. It's much more affordable if you buy it by the 5gal.

Edit: I was wrong. I just checked my receipt, and I paid $177 for 5gal (640oz)

I did when I had the Unichip. When I was running it with the most aggressive tune, it made a difference. I was using Torco.

Thanks. Torco question, I notice it tends to change color after I open a can. Gets darker, normal? I'm sure to shake before use.

Yep, it has a brown rusty color to it. That's normal.

ever since I got my OFT I have been monitoring IAM and seen it drop below 1.00 on some 91 gas...I've been mixing 94 octane when I can get it, to raise the octane level and then IAM goes back to 1.00. I've dropped to about 0.82 on 91 and you can definitely feel the difference when that happens.

Torco it up! Mann engineering has it and I just order mine from amazon in a pack of 6 cans. I only use it on the track though. No point daily driving with it.

Used regularly, the only long term effect is that normal black carbon deposits are changed to an orange-brown colour.

No cat degradation that I'm aware of but the tests are from racers who don't use cats.
Torco claims no effect on cats.

I've been using it for 2 years but due to the expense I only use it now for tracking.

And yeah, it works !

There's also a Torco Gas Station over in Sunol near Fremont/Pleasanton off highway 680.

Note - Running 93 or 99 or 100 octane is pretty useless unless your car is tuned for it. It's *generally* the fuels ability to resist combustion. A lot of guys like running 93 for their 91 cars on track days or hot days because the cars can run pretty hot during their runs. If you are just running stock and on the street, it's a LOT of money to pay. Buying premium from Chevron or Shell would probably be more economical and optimal for performance.

I've personally used it when my chip tune was questionable for 91 and I ran 93 to narrow down the pinging to the chip (as the only change to the system was the chip).

Question on using Torco:
Do you put the Torco in first, then fill up OR put the Torco in after a fill-up?

Logic tells me that putting Torco in first will allow it to mix better when the tank is filled but I don't know if the Torco will then sit on one side of our gas tank hump and not mix well with the rest...probably a silly questions but figured I'd ask anyways...

What is Torco's octane rating? The site says that 32 oz will bring the octane of 10 gallons of gas (1280 oz) up by 11 points. It seems more than a little sketchy to think that something that is 2.5% of the total volume could do that. It would need an octane rating of about 530, which is a little high considering that running straight toluene is only 114 octane.

I've always added the torco before the gas for that reason. I only use 8 to 12 oz. for 10 gals. of Shell V-Max no ethanol, just enough to keep the boxer from pulling timing.

I notice a difference with such a small amount. Now that I have O.F.T (stage 1 map), I will data log for more accurate result details.
