Note the title of this thread.
DIY repairs, not dealership recalls.

I changed a coil pack with help from a DIY in the last few months. I installed coils, lca, sways, and and other parts, 2 months ago with the help of DIY threads. I have posted in the trhreads thanks and or anthing I learned.

There are less forum members now than there was. But the information is being used and added to.

I do basic maintenance on my out of warranty car to save the cash, but my BRZ is getting the oil changes and other included stuff done at the dealer while its free. I just need to double check the work afterward to make sure they actually added oil.

I dont like the headache and knuckle busting that comes from working on cars, I do it because I have to and I have access to my dad when I get stuck. If I was rolling in dough I’d just pay someone. I like driving cars, not repairing them.

I use the DIY posts and videos on this forum ALL the time. You tube as well.

Millennials haha easy answer.

I’d rather pay if it’s less than $100. If it’s more I have to pay, I do it myself. Sometimes time is money. Like oil changes I do myself, if lazy just go dealer. Tires and other fluids I do myself as well. I just broke my fog lights for second time, I might get a shop to do em this time.

I wish I had a better place to work on my vehicles. The only flat part of the driveway is at the bottom by the street, tools are far away, power is far away, etc. It also sucks every time a car goes by and blows dust and gravel around. I want a heated garage with a lift someday, then I'll do so many things I won't do laying on my back with a car on stands.

Many of us know that struggle well. It's a real blessing even to have a level, clean driveway.

Garage
If I had a lift, I'd probably do a lot more on my own cars. Without one, a lot of work is a triple pain in the ass. My garage ceiling is too short to install a good lift, so that's out. Some day I might build (or have built) a barn where I can install one, but by then we'll probably have only EVs so there won't be much point.

^ I think that even then there are still things I'd want to do myself like swapping summer to winter wheels/tires and some real basics that you'd be embarrassed to pay someone to do for you like changing wiper blades.

This summer I'm going to take out or move an old shed we built at the top of the driveway 20 years ago so I can access the prime flat piece of ground. I'm thinking at that point to build some sort of temp cover over the area and maybe get one of these https://www.northerntool.com/shop/to...3416_200323416 Yeah I know, pipe dream but I also need some room to do woodwork on bigger things than will fit in the basement shop.

Here ya go - some pipe and a wench out of a wrecking yard and you have yourself the makings for a lift -
